The explanation could be is that while having the subs out of the water (and the displacement of the subs replaced with more water) the weight on the floor of the lagoon would be greater, but putting a sub on the track puts pressure directly on the supports of the track and not distributed evenly along the floor. Perhaps there were specific points under the lagoon that were giving way due to the track weight and not the lagoon in general, and removing the subs helped ease that problem.

I understand your point, but it is unlikely that they weighed that much more than the water. Also, if they were on the track, the track itself would help distribute the weight (like a snowshoe). Granted that the water would be even more distributed, but we're talking a very fine line in the weight difference. Therefore, if the concern were weight, I'd still have to believe that they'd need to drain the lagoon. Finally, if there are specific spots that were giving away (which is a reasonable assumption), then why not keep the subs off those particular spots (unless it is along the entire track). Just in case this post sounds rude or something, I don't mean it that way. I don't know why they removed the subs, I just find it hard to buy the entire weight reasoning.

I don't agree with this weight thing. This would mean that the entire track was too weak to support the subs and that just doesn't sound right. It might just be me, but something doesn't sound right. If they removed the subs and then replaced them with additional water to counteract the water displacement, Then that would still greatly affect the tracks, even with the weight being spread out. The tracks must have just begun to givewhen the subs were removed and they couldn't have been in that delecate of a condition. Personally I'd like to know how much the subs actually weighed and how much water in in the lagoon.
