HMMMM...
Untitled.jpg

Observations...
  • No Tower of Terror 10-miler listed for 2015 (confirmation of major upcoming construction in the Studios?)
  • Expedition Everest Challenge is listed for 2015 (despite no information on previous race programs), but not for 2016
  • No Disneyland Paris dates listed (if it's coming for 2015 will it have its own separate announcement?)
  • Possible addition of a 10K/challenge to Avengers Half Marathon Weekend?

ETA: Didn't realize this was already being discussed in the ToT 10-miler thread, oops!

Sad but I heard it's just suspended due to the construction that will be going on so hopefully it'll be back in 2016 and I'm glad Everest is still going can't wait to run it again

This can have it's own thread. Tower is surprising. If it was due to rumored construction I would think they could just reroute that part. No EEC in 2016 in between Princess and Tink? And still nothing about Paris.

I'm totally on-board with ToT taking a year off if it means major construction.

I'm glad EE is still there too.

Wow, great point about EE Challenge. Didn't see that. I would think they'd announce Paris on its own since it's a new race? And from other threads I've been reading it sounds like maybe there's some upcoming construction for DLP so I wonder if they would put that race off for a couple more years...

As for the ToT route, I just don't know. If there's construction that would take out (supposedly) the entire LM A and Backlot area. Is there enough room in the park to make up that portion they'd be losing? That course is in the parks so little as it is...

Theoretically they could reroute the course to go elsewhere in the park, but it's complicated by the after party. If the park was closed to all guests it wouldn't be an issue, but I just can't see them sending the race down Sunset Blvd while party-goers are in the same area. Given the extent of the rumored construction, they would basically need the entire course to be in onstage areas

I also noted in the Avengers thread that the 2015 Avengers weekend is listed as 4 days instead of 3. Presumably that means they're adding a 10K and a "challenge", though I'm really not sure that DLR needs or can support 4 10Ks and 4 10K+Half "challenges"

@FerretAfros - good catch on the Avengers changes. Maybe I'll keep a little list in the original post.

So is Wine & Dine the only challenge-less half marathon weekend (assuming Avengers will have a challenge)?

On FB somebody posted the following email from rD. They had deferred from this year's TOT (which would automatically put them in for next year's race), but it appears that there will be no 2015 TOT
Greetings from runDisney!
We are contacting you because you deferred your registration from the 2014 Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10-Miler. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10-Miler Weekend will not be returning in 2015. We wish to notify you of your alternate options. You will be receiving a guaranteed entry to a single runDisney event. Please see the runDisney Deferral Policy here for more details. You are eligible to register for your choice ...of the following runDisney events:
· 2015 Disneyland® 10K
· 2015 Disneyland® Half Marathon
· 2015 Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon
· 2015 Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon
· 2016 Walt Disney World® 10K
· 2016 Walt Disney World® Half Marathon
· 2016 Walt Disney World® Marathon
· 2016 Star Wars 10K
· 2016 Star Wars Half Marathon
· 2016 Disney Enchanted 10K
· 2016 Disney Princess Half Marathon
· 2016 Tinker Bell 10K
· 2016 Tinker Bell Half Marathon
Based on the wording, the race could potentially return in 2016 or later, but I wouldn't count on it

Yeah, "will not be returning in 2015" definitely leaves the door open. Interesting.

Well, that sounds like a confirmation. Wow. Thought they might just run into AK a bit then go straight to the Tower.

The 13K route snaked through MGM up and down every single pathway. I was hoping thsat they would reroute the course, but it sadly appears ToT will not be here in 2015.

Yeah. If they wanted to hold it, they could route it out back through the parking lot area, then come in the front side of DHS where the Marathon leaves, and meander around that way.

Assuming they are not holding it due to the construction, would have to wonder what that will do for the other courses as well. Would they have to redo the marathon course in 2016?

And if we are hypothesizing about construction stopping the 2015 ToT race, could they be planning on having Pandora construction somehow messing with with the EEC course hence no EEC in 2016? It seems odd to announce only the one year of the race. Or is 2015 an anniversary year, letting them go out with a bang?

I'm curious how the courses for wine n dine & the full's courses will alter since they both run through the backlot area..

I find it interesting that wdw n dlr now have the same # of races and tech dlr has more distance race weekends (dlr= 4 half, wdw 3 half/full and Everest..)

I think tower is def the weakest link race wise but still sad to see it gone..

The 2014 course map already showed an altered route, but the actual course was the same as in previous years. They also had the course recertified with a couple changes (including the DAK entrance being moved from Africa to Asia, presumably to avoid the Mombasa Marketplace construction) but it's unclear whether the rerouting in this area was part of the new measurement

For some reason the 2014 USATF certification is listed under Orlando instead of Lake Buena Vista, so it doesn't show up with most searches

Regarding TOT, I just saw this response on the Disney Moms Panel about the race, indicating that it (or something similar) may return in the future. I'm not sure how much insider information the Moms get, beyond having a healthy working knowledge of how things have been done in the past, but this seems in line with the previous response

Hello again, Alisa!

I can confirm the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10-Miler Weekend has "dropped" off the schedule for 2015. I'm so sorry to give you such frightful news, I know you were already planning for next year's race.

Please be on the lookout for new and exciting things from runDisney as the year goes on! And remember, this race may always reappear in a new and exciting way. This isn't the first time this race has gone on hiatus. This event was once known as the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 13K, but it took a few years off only to check back in to the Hollywood Tower Hotel bigger and better as the 10-Miler.

I hope you will consider an alternative runDisney race event, Alisa. We'd love to have you! And please let me know if you have any additional questions. I am here to help!

Keep Training!

Faith

I was wondering the same thing. Will we see any changes to the January marathon course in 2016 and beyond??? Once the new areas are complete, it would be fun to run through them.
