Just thought about this the other day and found an article to go with it. Looks like the Pirates, Cars, National Treasure, Tron, and possibly Narnia franchises could all have new installments in 2011. This is the year right after Toy Story 3 will also hit the big screen.
What are your thoughts on this? It looks like the Iger-era Disney Company is looking to capitalize on any profitable film by making more. As long as these franchises receive quality sequels, I am all for making more movies. But, too many franchises have been ruined because of lack-luster sequels and jumping-the-shark. I hope these Disney franchises don't catch this syndrome. Too much of a good thing usually turns out bad.
Anyway, this article also gives some rumors on what the plot of these speculated sequels might entail.

From MagicalMountain.net :
Disney is said to have quite the year in 2011. In fact, rumors are that they are due to release a total of four sequels that year. No word on any of this has been confirmed, but the films are said to be Cars 2, Pirate of the Caribbean 4, National Treasure 3, and TRON.
A sequel for cars 2 is said to be a long shot considering the fact that Cars was Pixar's least successful film at the box office coupled with the fact that Brad Bird said in an interview at Wondercon that "At Pixar, the bottom line is the story that you're telling. And Pixar does not look at sequels as a financial plan. We feel we have a relationship with the audience and that they believe in each movie we put out. We believe completely in every movie we put out. If I can come up with a story that is as good or better than that first film, then I'd love to return to that world, but it would have to be story first."
Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is already in the works, with the film focusing around Capt. Jack Sparrow alone. Some say that it will follow his adventures to find either Atlantis or the Fountain of Youth.
A plot description that may be in the works was reported on jimhillmedia.com last month for National Treasure 3. The plot "would supposedly send the Gates family off to Easter Island and beyond in search of Atlantis. More importantly, the pure, clean power source that was supposedly lost forever when this ancient civilization sank beneath the sea. Which - were it to be harnessed today - would immediately put an end to global warming. Not to mention making gas & oil obsolete."
Last, but certainly not least, TRON is definitely being made, but will not necessarily be a sequel. So far it has been released that Joseph Kosinski was in talks to direct the film, and that it would possibly be in Disney Digital 3D.
