When will the 2010 booking window open up? I want to check rates for January. Also, what do you think are the chances that Disney will bring back the 4 for 3 Deal? I used it last January and hopefully, they will do it again.

Rates will be released in August. You can book a room only up to 499 days out and then convert it into a package when rates are released. There is no telling what promotions will be released but it is a fairly safe bet to say that something will come out but what that something will be is anyone's guess.

This is going to be a problem for Disney when the economy recovers. They almost HAVE to offer free dining in the Fall, because now people don't book their trips until it's announced. Now it seems people aren't going to book 2010 trips until a discount is announced. If people start expecting it, it can actually harm Disney (in the short run anyway, but Disney would take longer to recover as a result).

They should have just offered discounts and not extended the dates. It was those date extensions that have created discount expectations.

Disney walks a tightrope when it comes to discounts. As you said people expect the discounts and do not book until it is announced or the more informed guests book with someone like myself knowing that they will get rebooked when a discount comes out. In essence no one that does even the slightest bit of research will pay full price at WDW anymore. Because Disney keeps up this pattern of all too predictable discounts and promotions I can only assume that they are still making quite a bit of coin. If I had to guess I would think that they are pulling the typical "offer a discount on an inflated price" scheme. People buy because they are thinking that they are getting a deal when in reality the sale price that they are getting is the MSRP that the retailer had originally intended. Those consumers that mistakenly pay full price are just gravy.

You would be surprised at how many people book at rack rate. Many of my friends have never heard of AllEars, MouseSavers, or even wdwmagic. We are in the minority.

Many of my friends and friends of the family look at me in shock when I tell them of all of the deals that they could have had if they had only booked with a Disney-specialist travel agent - but they think that all they need to do is call Disney directly to get the best rate.
