$200 gift card: How would you use it

Okay, so I had a deal with the Disney Chase Visa that if I spent $500 on it, I would get a $200 gift card. I now have it and am taking it to WDW next week. How would you use it?

I'm thinking I would start off reserving it for F&W booths and allow all other incidentals to hit my MB for charges to my room.

Yep I just used $2500 in gift cards to pay for my upcoming December trip. ok, so $900 of it was from my boss the last three Christmases, but I made lemonade out of lemons --- 2 years ago this coming December, my DH had brain aneurysm surgery and last December my DS, then 24 had complications from a tonsillectomy --- we ended up with over $6500 in medical bills. So I paid them off monthly, used my Discover card, earned cash, then bought gift cards with my Target red card, cashed out the Discover $$$s and before you know it, I had a ton a gift cards.

The Disney Visa is a great little card if you go to Disney a lot. My wife and I put all of our purchases on that card and we rack up around $50 a month in Disney rewards dollars. $200 will go quick at Disney; if it were me, I'd put it towards a vacation. If you don't have any vacations planned for a while, I'd put it towards dining and souvenirs.

Wow. Well, I'm starting small. Was in the hospital in February for pancreatitis. Had a $2,500 co-insurance maximum which I finally paid off in July. Just paid with my credit union Visa and transferred money from other accounts after each pay period. Guess I could have used Discover (didn't yet have Chase Visa until recently) to get reward money and use that to purchase Disney gift cards. Hindsight is always 20-20.

I'm a State of Florida employee. Think I'll put it towards dining and souvenirs to keep my costs down.

Which version of the card did you get? The one that comes with an annual fee? If so, you get 2% on Disney purchases, gas, restaurants and grocery stores (Wal-Mart and Target included) and then 1% on all other purchases. The other thing to look at is expiration; make sure that $200 gift card doesn't expire before you can use it.

I got the Disney Rewards card just before the SW promotion and used an offer from Disney that came in the mail which included the $200 gift card with $500 on purchases. Since I just got the gift card a month ago and going to WDW next week, no worries on the expiration date. :)

Awesome! Now you can get into the Disney Visa character M&G at Epcot! Enjoy!

I also have the Disney Visa and built up over $2000 in the last 6 years (since my last trip). Made my $200 deposit over a year ago for this December. Hope you are all healthy now!!

Yes...they should be abou the same with the exception of the $49 annual fee. I feel the perks you get with the Premier card (2% rewards on certain purchases) outweigh the annual fee.

Hmm. Will have to think about that this week. I guess if I call and switch, my Visa # automatically becomes Premier? With a WDW trip next week and assured of spending money, and the rewards on purchases, switching to the Premier sounds enticing.

It definitely is worth it to have premier. I can't remember what they did for me, but I know I got new cards (and you get to choose the design of your card). If you decide to upgrade to Premier, I know the change will be instant and you'll start earning the better rewards immediately (even without the new card). Then once you get your new cards, just activate them and destroy the old.

I always use my gift cards up first. Not necessarily on anything specific, just first. Unless I'd be going back soon, I don't want to be stuck with them when I get home.
Then after they are all used up, I'd go to the magic band.

Just called them. The stipulation of an existing Rewards account is that you must use it for a full year before you can upgrade to the Premier. Obviously, I could sign up for a second account but I won't do that. I can wait.

Ahh...I see. If you signed up for a second account, you may get another $200 lol.
