20,000 Leagues under the Sea

I do not know if this qualifies as a "secret" or not or if this is already widely known. The last time we were at WDW (Feb 2004) was the first time I had went since 20,000 Leagues was no longer there. I spoke with a cast member about the ride's removal. I remember he said something about most children today are not familiar with the movie this ride was based on. (I also know now after reading about it, the reasons such as the cost of keeping that much water clear enough for viewing the underwater scenes, the ride not being wheelchair accessible, etc.).

As for the information that may not be widely known, the cast member told me about the underground system they have at WDW (of which I was already aware). He told me that a reason for the ride's removal was because the cast member's locker room(s) were located underneath where 20,000 Leagues used to be, and they would often have leaks in the locker rooms.

The cast member locker room might indeed be inder that area, but that is absolutely NOT the reason the ride was removed. You've already read about why the ride was removed. Disney would never remove a multi-million dollar attraction for the convenience of cast members. Cast members are at Disney at the convenience of the attractions.

I did not think the cast member meant it was the only reason (which is why I said a reason in my original post) for the ride's removal (even though it may have sounded that way the way he said it, and if that is what he was trying to get across, I did not think it was correct). I thought, however, that it could have been added to their list of reasons for the ride's removal, but more in the sense where Disney had already decided to remove the ride and just found another reason to add to the list.

I was not posting this where I considered the "reason for the removal" as the only secret either. I thought all of the information - the cast members' locker room being located under where the ride used to be located, that they had a problem with leaking, and that it was one of the possible reasons for the ride's removal - was interesting.
