20,000 Leagues - RED subs?

Were those subs in the rehab 'drydock' when you photographed them? if so, that might be a primer coat laid down prior to the finish coat of paint.
I don't ever recall seeing any red painted subs in operation.

If the ride wsa in rehab..then they were touching up the subs too...the red you see is a base layer of some type...I rode the ride shortly after that point and I do not remember red subs ;)

The pix make this look like a base or primer.


I saw two like this in Feb. of 2000. We were leaving Castaway Cay aboard the Magic, and two were on a work barge holding outside the breakwall.

According to friends that went on the cruise in 2001, these are set up as static displays, one being sunk in the snorkling lagoon.

I always did like that ride, campy, cooler effects (for the times) and could be a good time, as long as you had an entertainint 'captain', much like Jungle Cruise.

The only real downside was that it was a killer line!
