What exactly is the 20,000 Leagues attraction at Tokyo DS like? The Travel channel segment on it looked sort of fake and computer generated.

ok. Heres the deal. BUT THERE ARE MAJOR SPOILERS..

The 20,000 Leagues ride does not actually take place underwater. Yes, the ride is themed to underwater, but there is not actual water in the building. You get into these subs in which the bubble glass in front of you creates an illusion that you are going underwater by floating bubbles and water by you. I believe the glass bubble you look through is actually two thin pieces of glass with a small channel in between. Bubbles are pumped through the glass to make it seem as though you are diving. The actual showrooms are just normal dark ride rooms dressed up as being under the sea.

(Just a note: I believe this system, called a "dry/wet" effect, was developed for the Little Mermaid attraction that was never built in Paris, as noted on several websites and David Koenig's "Mouse Under Glass")

As for the camera shot featuring the fake bubbles, those were actually generated for that shot. I suppose you were talking about the video that shows two people looking through the glass of the sub? Because the camera (the way that it was shooting the sub from OUTSIDE of it) would reveal that the ride doesn't really take place underwater, the bubbles were generated by computer. That shot was probably made for a promotional ad before being put in the special.
