So we are going to Disney to stay at AoA on november 9th and I am starting our countdown to our vacation. I am planning on Friday night Disney nights.... Here is my plan...

1. Have family movie night on Fridays to see all the movies we haven't seen.
2. Make a recipe a week from our Liston this board!

How do you guys prep? I can't wait to try out some of these recipes!

Hurray for your countdown!!! Aside from visiting this wonderful site each and every day, and perusing the topics, I am a big fan of Youtube videos that have anything and everything about Disney!! My Itouch has a slew of Disney music on it. (Illuminations pre music being some of my fav, Our Life from Uttara-Kuru and Busindre Reel from Hevia), Try to do a Disney movie on Sunday evenings (once the double digit day arrives) and plan, plan, plan until the cows come home (or in this instance, when the mouse comes home LOL) Let the countdown begin!!! Have fun!!!

We won't start our big preparations until after make the big announcement to the kids, but we have some ideas on how to give them a proper "Disney education" prior to their first visit:

1 - We have a countdown calendar with a pull-off card covering each date, with a picture of an attraction on the front. When the kids remove one each day and turn it over (uncovering the number of "days to go" in the process), it will have the name and description of that attraction, as well as what park it's in. We'll talk about it and may even go on Youtube to see part of an on-ride video so they have some idea of what to expect. This will also help us to gauge ahead of time what rides might be too intense for them (e.g., Dinosaur, Tower of Terror). My almost-6-year-old son loves maps, so I pre-ordered the free ones off the Disney website, and as the kids begin to identify their own "can't-miss" attractions, they can practice finding them on the map.

2 - In addition to learning about a new attraction each day, we'll also be reading Disney bedtime stories (e.g., It's a Small World) and books about flying on an airplane (this will be their first experience with flying, too), and on our weekly family "movie night," we'll preface whatever movie we've picked with a few minutes from the Vacation Planning DVD, and/or bits of the old early-2000s Travel Channel WDW specials, three of which I recorded on our DVR. (We'll just have to explain that ToonTown is no longer an option, nor can they expect to see that impressive Yeti that one special spends 20 minutes hyping, LOL).

I LOVE the OP's idea about making Disney recipes, too! We may have to add that to our pre-Disney itinerary. :)

After we book a trip our favorite early planning thing to do is that we all sit down once a week at dinner and go though the many online menu's for Table Service restaraunts we are interested in dining at. We have found that with three boys, ages 6,12, &14 it's best to make sure the chosen restaraunts have something on the menu that they will eat. Through the next few weeks we get a rough idea of where we should make our ADR's. It usually takes us a few weeks to get it all finalized, but when our 180 days comes around, we're ready at 6 am to call!

I did the same thing this trip since my 3 yr old is super picky. I actually called ohanas to see if they could get French fries from one of the other restaurants. I love going over them. It gets me so excited! I am sure my husband is sick of hearing all my crazy plans ;)

that sounds fun. may i suggest the oreo bon bon cupcake from board walk bakery? its amazing and easy to do :)
yep! correct!! another thing we do, is 6 weeks out from departure, I do Disney *brunch dinners* on Sundays. I've done tonga toast, and also the belgian waffles, do pineapple wedges on the grill (we're HUGE Poly fans) or their ham and egg omelettes, mimosas and/or wasabi marys. It gets to where, each week, I hear the countdown.... (5 weeks to go, 4... 3.... 2....) Kinda cool!
