The first images I ever saw of WDW were from a promo film that played before "Snowball Express" at the movie theatre in 1972. I remember mostly the monorail, Poly and Contemp, and Country Bears. That short promo made me always want to go there - it took 14 years. Does anyone else remember this promo, and have you seen it anywhere since? Thanks.

I think you are referring to A Dream Called Walt Disney World.
That one started it all for me also. :animwink:

I had it uploaded to a place, but I removed it yesterday.

Yesterday? Wow, bad timing on my part.

A Dream Called Walt Disney World is listed on IMDB, but it says 1981. It also seems to be on Youtube. Not sure if this is the same thing. Perhaps it contains footage from the 1972 version. Thanks.

Maybe I will find another place to post it soon.

Thanks. I see it on IMDB. 29 minutes. Didn't realize it was that long, but I do remember it being extensive. 34 years later and I can still remember it even though I've seen the actual locations - I can still remember them from the film. And of course Snowball Express was a real scream. I wonder how many other Disney films that promo film played with. It would be fun to see it again.

I also saw it in front of Snowball Express. WDW had just opened, so they probably paired it with the first feature to be released after the resort opened.

That little promo film started a life-long obsession with the Disney parks for me :animwink:

I don't really have any place to put the videos at the moment.

Yes, I do have that opening special with Julie Andrews also. I think it may still be available as a DVD ISO over at mousebits (bitTorrent).

When I was looking for these clips on YouTube, I found a 1971 commercial for the Contemporary. The commercial seems to say that US Steel owned the Contemporary. Was that true? Is it still true?

I also saw a clip of Bob Hope at the Contemporary on opening day. It looks like he is standing on stairs that lead from the monorail platform to the grand concourse. I don't think those stairs are there now, and they do not look like temporary stairs for his performance in the clip. Anyone know anything about them?
