I was helping sort through my 93 year old grandmother's paperwork yesterday since she's having to leave her home and go into assisted living. Among the many personally, family history items of interest, I also found this gem. It's a preview brochure telling people about the upcoming 1964-54 World's Fair in New York.

As any Disney fan knows, many classic Disney attractions - including Small World and what's now called Carousel of Progress - were introduced at the 64-65 World's Fair.

So here's a scan of both sides of the brochure. Sadly, it's just a preview one so there's no details of the specific attractions but it's darn neat anyway.

It's slightly taller then my scanner so I tried to center it on there but a smidge of the top and bottom got cut off.

Neat, eh? :D

Very nice indeed!

Too bad "Peace Through Understanding" has fallen by the wayside over the past 45 years though.....

At least that is still there.
Unisphere was designed to be permanent (made of steel) as part of the grand vision for a permanent park. Trylon and Perisphere had a Gypsum Board covering, so they really didn't have a chance. Which is a shame because, even though it was "boring" on the outside, it was most-similar to Spaceship Earth inside :D

Supporting evidence of its SSE-ness... ;)

Heh. The CITY in there almost looks like E.P.C.O.T. City.

Excellent find! Although I am far too young to have visited the Fair, I am a big fan as well. My dad went, but his only memories are vague, unfortunately.

I went to visit Flushing Meadows (the site of the Fair) a few years ago, and its current state is fairly depressing. Seeing the Unisphere was amazing, but to look at the ruins of the NY State Pavilion, and the odd remnants, remembering what had once been there, well... :(

Why yes, yes it does. :D

PS: It's called "Democracity" -- nothing like a Dinsey-esque portmanteau, no? :D
Hee hee! Very much so! :D

I have heard that in recent months things are improving, though, as there is more regular upkeep.

Wish they would relight the capitols on the Unisphere, though.
