1900 Park Fare characters present during entire dinner hours?

I read somewhere that with dinner character meals, the characters are only there for like an hour out of the whole evening- is this true? I was thinking of having us eat dinner at Cinderella's Gala before we go to MVMCP, so I would make ADR's for 4:30, which is when they start dinner. I don't want to go at a time when we won't see anyone! I also read that you should allow 2 hours for a character meal? That seems rather lengthy to me! Anyone have any advise??

If you go for dinner, you do not have to worry about missing out on the characters, no matter how early or late your dinner is. For dinner, the characters are Cinderella, Prince Charming, Fairy Godmother, Suzy and Perla.

For most character dining restaurants, an hour is usually long enough to see all of the characters and eat. However, 1900 park fair is a very large restaurant, with many tables, so 2 hours doesn't seem like that much of a stretch. It probably takes a while for the characters to make it around.

For breakfast, the characters that are there are Mary Poppins, Alice, Mad Hatter, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and Piglet, so you can imagine how many tables are in this restaurant if that many characters are walking around, compared to Gulliver's Grill, Donald's Breakfastasourus, and Cape May Cafe (which only have two or three characters)
