Really, the only amazing 3D Sonic has been Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast. Sonic Adventure is very fun, very fast, and very Sonic. In SA, they introduce Chao, a sort of minigame if you will. With Chao, you breed and raise them, right from when they hatch out of their eggs. Chao live in Chao Gardens, each Adventure Field has a Chao Garden. You give them animals you collect throughout the Action Stages, and this increases their flight, speed, strength, etc. You then race them to win prizes, it sounds boring but its really quite addicting. SA has a great story and introduces two new characters, E-102 Gamma and Big the Cat. The rest of the cast includes Sonic (of course), Tails, Knuckles, and Amy ( but shes changed from Sonic CD). If you havent played this yet, I highly recommend you do. Sonic Adventure has been brought to the GC in the form of Sonic Adventure DX but its not the same. There is more to do yes, but the frame rate drops alot and there are alot of glitches. Play this one on the Dreamcast if you get a chance to.
Sonic Adventure 2, while still a great game, just did not have the same feeling as the first. Its fun and fast, but at times just doesnt feel too Sonic like. Not to mention Final Rail is a pain in the , especially for getting a darn A Rank. The Chao have been improved in this one and now have the ability to show more of their emotions and do more things, they also actually breed in this one. SA2 introduces another two characters, Rouge the Bat and Shadow the Hedgehog. You either play Hero or Dark side. Hero side is Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Dark side is Shadow, Rouge, and Dr. Robotnik (Eggman, and yes, you play as Eggman in this one, hes in a mech, as is Tails).Once again, this one is also on the GC in the form of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, the battle in the title is pointing towards the heavily revamped 2-player mode. When porting this from the Dreamcast, it was heavily tweaked, playing it on either the Dreamcast or GC is your call. I play it on both. SA2 also marked the 10th Anniversary of Sonic and so as a special easter egg, when you collect all 180 emblems, you unlock a 3D version of the Green Hill Zone, the very first Sonic level.
Sonic Shuffle for the Dreamcast, its Mario Party with Sonic, minus the fun. Play this one at your own risk. I dont know what went wrong. Hudson, the same people that co-developed Mario Party, also co-developed Sonic Shuffle, you would think it would be a blast. It even had an online mode planned up until the end but for some reason it was dropped. Sadly something went awry and Sonic Shuffle became one of the Hedgehog's darker gaming moments.
Then for a while, there was nothing new. Just collections being released across all platforms, then came Sonic Heros.
Sonic Heros is a different Sonic game. Gameplay is done in a team formation, each character is assigned to a button and you press that button to get the character. Each team consists of Speed, Flight, and Strength. You can level up your characters with power ups found throughout the levels. There are Four teams,Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles),Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, and E-123 Omega),Team Rose(Cream, Amy,Big), and Team Chaotix (from the obscure 32X game Knuckles Chaotix, minus Mighty the Armadillo). Feelings are mixed on this one, while the game goes back to its roots more than any of the other 3D Sonic games, the gameplay is frustrating and glitchy. Sometimes the levels arent any fun at all. Play this one if you want to, you are not missing much if you dont tho.
Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic gameplay with guns. I have never played it, and I never intend to. I would recommed you do the same.
Sonic Riders I cant say much for as I dont own it yet. I have played the demo at the store and it seems fun. I need to pick it up.
The new Sonic The Hedgehog for Xbox360 and PS3. My impressions are mixed on this one, mainly because of the new character, Silver the Hedgehog. They are trying to pull a DBZ Trunks saga story here. Silver is from the future and is connected to somebody, somehow. He mutters something about an Iblis Trigger in the trailer. All we can do is wait on this one and hope for the best.
Sonic Wildfire for the Wii, looks interesting. Im not too sure on how Sonic will move with the Wiimote. Wii
lol: ) will have to see.
