I am excited to be running in my first marathon and especially my first run Disney event!

Here is the thing, I ran a half in Sept. (Talladega half marathon) and did pretty well on my finish time but 20 minutes later I got severely nauseated and kept passing out. I was extremely hypotensive(low blood pressure) and had to be taken via ambulance to the ER where I spent the rest of the day getting IV fluids. I learned the importance of pre race hydration as well as not taking you BP pill which has a diuretic in it! Stupid me, I'm a nurse and should know better.

Anyway, my training has been hampered by an ankle sprain and a sinus infection and I haven't quite attained the mileage on my long runs. I ran a 13.1 miles a week ago and felt pretty good afterwords but I got a bad sinus infection that knocked me out for a week. So with 11 days left I only have so much time left to get another long run in before the race.

What distance do y'all recommend and is it a bad strategy to treat this marathon like a half and then mostly walk the rest of of the 26 miles?

Thoughts?

Probably bad strategy. Might be tough to make the pace requirement. Do you run/walk? Maybe do a 2:1 or 3:1. Check out jeffgalloway.com.

A very brisk walk for me is about 17:00 minutes per mile and the cutoff is not much quicker than that so, on paper it would work but I agree with the run/walk attempt. Even a run 1/walk 1 should get you across the finish line.
Sympathies on the ankle. Mine is grumpy from training for The Dopey. I know it and the rest of me will make it through the first three days without much trouble. Full marathon day is a whole different beast.

I have been using Jeff Galloways run/walk method. My last 13.1 miler a couple of weeks ago I finished with avg pace of 11'04'' so I figured if I can do that then mostly walk the rest I should be well ahead of the sweeper. Oh well, not much I can do now. About to head out on a 18 miler this AM.

If that is your pace for the first half, you would only need to maintain a 21-minute mile pace for the 2nd half. No worries.
