100 YoM Planning Video odd?

Okay, I was sitting here using my 100 Years of Magic vacation planning video as backround noise for my homework when I looked up and noticed something odd.
Just in the Magic Kingdom segment alone I noticed a number of things peculiar...

Like why they show the lights on in Space Mountain.
Or in Buzz Lightyear, why is Buzz moving?
Why is it on Alien Encounter they show goo falling on a guys hand and tenticles hitting people?
And finally, why are they still using footage of PotC with the pirates chasing the women around??

Isn't this almost false advertising?

I even remember when I lived in Fla. that arond halloween they'd advertise for MGM and show the ToT commercial where the kids were standing up!

Does anyone else find this odd or even borderline false advertisement?

While it's probably not gonig to get them in trouble, they are stretching the truth quite a bit.

The new "Where magic lives" has the same old stock POTC footage.

I don't find it false advertising at all.
You have to understand what it is they are advertising. The Disney parks are selling an experience -- not a ride system.

In Alien Encounter the percieved experience is of goo, gore and tentacles or a tongue touching you -- even when it is not. If they filmed what actually happens on the ride system it would destroy some of the magic and not be very fun to watch.

Many of the attractions are like this-- and they really need to be experienced to be appreciated. The advertising tries to convey what it is you will feel and experience when you ride the ride.

As far as I can tell, people aren't feeling let down after visiting the parks for the first time having seen the video/ads beforehand.

Concerning the Pirates... I imagine they used stock footage of the ride from the past rather than invest in reshooting for the video.

Regarding Buzz.. he does move doesn't he? Or do you mean like walking aoround?

I am leaving for the parks this Saturday... I can't wait, I need my fix.

The clips your describing are from the promo footage shot for the attractions while they were being built (with the exception of the PotC footage which is just old.)

They do this for several reasons:

1. It is tough to get across the feel of a ten min. ride in 15secs. By showing the "Dramatic Recreation" they get the feel and excitment across to people that have never been on the ride.

2. It is an expense to reshoot PotC footage just to correct a minor change in an attraction.

3. Who wants too see AE as a dark room where you're not experiencing the effects and you would have to watch for at least a couple of min. just to get the context of what you're seeing let alone get an idea of what the ride is.

In short (yeah I know, too late), it doesn't bother me.

Very well said by both Lovecraft and fngoofy!

IF you look closely at any vacation planning videos, you'll see a potpouri of footage that is new, old, staged just for promotional purposes, etc.

Actually, almost everything on the 100YoM DVD is voice-over- from the pirates' voices, the parrot's voice, the Jungle Cruise voice, etc., etc. They merely used old footage with background sound and dubbed-over voices to say what was convenient and what flowed for the video. You also notice that although some footage is brand new, some footage is really, really old school!
