I hope someone can help me here on a park ticket question...

I'm going to the Resort and I'll be using a 10 day MYW PH/WP&M ticket. I wanted to know if by going to the Park during your birthday and decide to go with the 1 of the 3 other birthday options Does this take a day off of your ticket or will you be able to use that day you missed from the 14 days of first use?

If you don't take the free admission on your birthday you can get other things, but that means an admission from your 10-day MYW would be used to enter the park. So, you get ten days in the parks using your 10-day ticket, not 11.

If you want 11 days' entry within your 14-day use period, you could just take the free admission on your birthday.

Let's clarify:

- you have a 10-day MYW PH/WPF&M ticket
- you are going to go on your birthday but NOT use the free admission option, you will use one of the other options - right?

If you plan on entering the park on your birthday, and NOT get in for free, you will use 1 of your 10 days.

Hmm..That sounds better...I'll do the free admission instead and save a day. I was just reading about the "Special Birthday Card" for for certain purchases including select merchandise, recreation or tour experiences, or for Disney's PhotoPass on-site services at participating locations at Walt Disney World Resort. So I guess it's better than what your limited to do with the Birthday card..

Well, "select merchandise" is a little misleading. You can buy just about anything at any Disney owner-and-operated merchandise location. They just say "select" because there ARE a couple restrictions, things like artwork and collectibles at World of Disney, tobacco products, etc.
Even though it says you can't use it for food, you can use it in the candy stores because those stores are classified as merchandise and not as restaurants or food service locations.

I think of the "brick-and-mortar" stores in the parks (i.e. not the random carts in the park), you'd find the most restrictions in World Showcase, where Disney doesn't operate many of the shops.
But, for example, if you were to go to MouseGear or the Emporium, you could buy just about anything in those locations.

So unless you REALLY REALLY REALLY need that 11th day of admission during your trip, consider the fact that your 10th day on your ticket cost you about $3. By using that admission and getting the gift card, you turn that $3 into a $70 shopping credit.
