‘Space Mountain’ movie in the works

This is very exciting to me because it could lead us to a refurb of MKs Space Mountain. Which it has needed for as long as I can remember.

While that might seem possible, we are talking about Disney here. At best we would see them slap some characters into the beginning and the end. It needs a complete track replacement. I doubt a movie would trigger them to do that.

As far as the movie idea goes, I'm too lazy to add a face palm gif.

I had read a while back about a Space Mountain pitch. It was basically about a family (siblings I think) that were somehow separated through time and space and how one of them has to find a special portal (based on the ride I presume) to find his/her lost family in another realm or something like that.

I think Disney+ is a great opportunity for more ride-based movies and shows. I think every parks attraction should have at least a derivative series or short film to act as promo for the attraction and to fill in the backstory of a ride.

Basically, this would work the opposite way as “this movie was a hit, let’s retheme a ride after it.”

This I agree with. TBH, I think there is very little room for big monetary success on the big screen now. Anything new at all (even if based on a ride) is extremely risky for the big screen. For Disney, Marvel, Star Wars (maybe), Pixar, and Disney Animated are the only sure hits in the theater ONLY when people are comfortable again going. A few live actions also have potential. Okay, maybe just Little Mermaid at this point.

THR reports Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec will now write the script for the live-action adaptation of Space Mountain.

"Action scribes Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are going to Disneyland.

The prolific team behind Amazon’s high-profile spy series Citadel and showrunners on Netflix’s adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, have been tapped to write Disney’s live-action adaptation of Space Mountain.

Jonathan Eirich from Rideback, the banner that is behind Netflix’s hit live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, is producing the feature, which has been in development for several years, along with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse. Harold was the project’s previous writer. Rideback’s Ryan Halprin is exec producing."
