New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

That's true. And i suppose its a somewhat self-correcting process. If any significant number of people tried to take advantage of doing it in park, those lines would become longer and reduce the advantages of doing so. And i would imagine if Disney saw the number of AP holders choosing to...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

The uncertainty is somewhat temporary. As of now no one knows if they will qualify. But a year from now many people (especially locals and AP holders) will have found out if they qualify a few times and have some certainty (nothing is guaranteed obviously) whether they will continue to...

Not sure if anyone here would know the answer to this question, but curiosity struck me while "on hold" for 3 hours this morning to do my DAS application. For guests who are instructed to do the virtual screening in the park, are they going through the same queue with DAS guest services as...

I don't claim to be representative of all people with these issues and they are not my son's primary reason for requiring DAS, but as they do aggravate other issues I can say for us it comes down to planning and strategy to control length of exposure. We are forced to travel in summer due to...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

That's an interesting point and raises a question we probably can't get the answer to yet. Will Disney accept review requests from people onsite who have attempted to visit without DAS but have found it impossible. I was assuming once you were rejected, you could not reapply within a certain...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

I doubt Disney would put formal quotas or metrics in place that could be used against them in any potential law suit. But I'm certain leadership is expecting to hit a target in YoY reduction of DAS and the frontline managers will make sure they hit it regardless of whether they have any formal...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

yeah but you can't just shove disabled guests out to the parking lot or put up a tent in next to the solar farm. From a practical standpoint, you'd need something larger than the dumbo waiting area right next to every D and E ticket ride in every park. The only way you are achieving that is...

And space. Any lounge like that would need to be pretty significant in size as they'd be dealing with the same problem the LL's currently have. Which is that you can't predict where DAS users will be, so every lounge would need to be equipped to hold peak DAS crowds in a space large enough to...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but yes I agree. I am not saying Disney is required to offer DAS to everyone. They very clearly have a lot of wiggle room where they could reduce who is eligible through DAS or remove it entirely as long as they offered alternative accommodations that met the...

That's the part most aren't considering here. Re-rides are usually associated with kids who have (as Disney would put it) "Autism or similar". For the most part these people aren't riding ToT all day every day. My son's fixations are Pooh and SSE. If he rides those 4 times in one day and...

It doesn't matter. The fact that there is a paid service that offers something similar doesn't have any bearing on DAS which is being offered as accommodation to regular standby. So that is what it would be measured against. Is Disney offering reasonable accommodation for an alternative to...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

I think they would have to demonstrate that re-rides specifically (not just DAS in general) were causing infringement on standard guests or restrict standby for regular guests to a single ride on those attractions as well. Otherwise they would be saying someone whose disability prohibits them...

But DAS isn't an alternative to Genie+. It is an alternative method of waiting for your standby time. If standby guests can queue over and over again for Small World, telling DAS they cannot would be restricting DAS guests to different services than what is available to standby.

Yes, that seems to be the starting point. And may be the entirety of the process for all I know. But my open question is how the pre-validation calls will go. What will they do with someone calling in saying they want DAS for Anxiety. How will they treat some of the people who have told...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Not saying they will do this or even want to...but if they wanted to crack down they would need to run it more like a School's IEP process. You don't ask what condition you are requesting this for and then offer a one size fits all solution in DAS. You ask them what specific challenges they...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

All we know, unless I missed something (its a long thread), is that "Autism and similar" is the disability Disney is using as the primary reason for requiring DAS. But as the email posted earlier in this thread specified, the pre-screening will offer "individualized conversations" that go over...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

yes, but there is still an approval process. If you have a physical disability and want to use their return to queue system you can do so without pre-approval. In fact, I would assume any guest can use it. DAS still needs pre-screening and approval of your condition. And they have added...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

To give Disney the benefit of the doubt (a losing proposition usually) we haven't really seen the part of this that is likely intended to curb abuse yet. They are moving physical disabilities to alternative accommodations that don't require approval as one half of the equation. The other half...

New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Yes I agree. They seem to have decided they can reduce overall DAS usage through the use of alternative accommodations for some disabilities. Which is definitely possible. Also might be a disaster ending up with them in court. As of now I think they are perfectly within legal bounds with...

Apologies if I misinterpreted. In general I agree. They should crack down on abuse more. It gives those of us who use DAS appropriately a bad name and makes everyone's experience worse. They just have to be very careful about how they go about that.
