Spirited News, Observations & Thoughts IV

Not so much cost cutting as money lost to inexperience and ineptitude.

Jim Hill + Harry Potter = One Scary Story

Disney has never gone as far as Universal did for this project regarding secrecy. Also, Disney has not gone nearly as far as Universal in preparation for a Harry Potter themed project, from full ride system and effects mock ups all the way down to consumables estimates. They are extremely...

Jim Hill + Harry Potter = One Scary Story

Universal is sure spending a lot of money for a "smokescreen." Mock ups are taking place in a large sound stage with a prototype ride system in place. Believe me, there is a lot of heartburn in the ranks of Universal corporate due to the leak of this information. I have no idea how it leaked or...

Jim Hill talks of potential Harry Potter project

Nope...this will not happen with Disney.

Nemo ruined it! Bring back hydrolators!

The only project out of the list you have there that I think meets Disney standards is Disney Sea (financed by Oriental Land Company). Also, I didn't say everything out of Eisner era was bad. Just toward the last 8 to 10 years with a few exceptions (tough to be a Bug).

Nemo ruined it! Bring back hydrolators!

Not attacking you. Just pointing out, from my point of view, that budget, project program, creative and technical plans were approved under Eisner's reign. Seems like we agree on that.

Nemo ruined it! Bring back hydrolators!

Corrus I'm surprised at you. You know this ride was well into development before Iger and Jobs.

Nemo ruined it! Bring back hydrolators!

The ride was okay. Once again, another mediocre attraction brought to you by the Eisner era. I felt as though I was being moved from one projection screen to another. The scenic was small-scale and the POV was limiting. At least with Horizons, a similar POV, the scenes were much larger and...

Altercation with IDIOT at Grand Floridian Parking lot!!

I have a good one also. I'm in bumper to bumper traffic on 192. This guy behind me starts weaving and honking his horn in anger. we move up a bit. This gives him room to peel onto the side of the lane. He speeds up and hits the back of a police car! It was fantastic. You should have seen the...

    Scathing Animal Kingdom Article

It's mediocre at best. I would describe it as a huge let down. A mild coaster that has about as much thrill as BTMR and less show.

    Expedition Everest's Devil's Advocate

That is a very good question. I don't limit the term "groundbreaking" to just technology. To me Splash was a groundbreaking project in that it raised the level of expectation with respect to flume rides. Yes there are some firsts in the technology category. For example, the coaster element in...

    Expedition Everest's Devil's Advocate

I find guests' expectations to be exactly the opposite. Comparing EE to Splash or Pirates or even BTMR is enough for me to say EE was a step back in some cases. Compare the number of show elements in BTMR or Splash to EE as a start.

    Expedition Everest's Devil's Advocate

Thanks. I'm not purposely trying to be diplomatic but if there's one thing I've learned being in the design field...it's all subjective. I've met people that think Spiderman or Indy ride are just "okay." While it boggles my mind I've realized that nothing I say will change most opinions. Same...

    Expedition Everest's Devil's Advocate

Don't get me wrong...there are some good things about it. It's still fun but I wouldn't expect anything groundbreaking. If you go with that in mind you'll probably enjoy it.

    Expedition Everest's Devil's Advocate

I had a little down time and decided to check one of my favorite sites and what do I find...a post about Disney vacationers being disappointed with Everest. Remember, he said these folks travel to Disney on a regular basis, so they are not looking for Six Flags thrills. That is not why they were...

    EE Update Feature

We were contracted for the largest of the projects. Not by large companies however. We are currently working on two products that we may own a substantial percentage. I also have a few potential jobs for park projects currently in development. Funny thing happened today. I took a friend for...
