And I stopped by the runDisney booth to register my disappointment. I was told it was done to prevent course crowding ("safety is our #1 concern") and that it'll be the same tomorrow. I asked why they couldn't at least have any characters at the finish area and she didn't have an answer for that.

I ran the 5K today - one character stop (Hook and Smee) but not a "real" picture. Selfie only. There were cones set up in front of them and we were not allowed to cross over the cones...so were about 10' away. So technically there were characters but not a "real" stop. Last year they had two...

Right now runDisney staff is at the Light Side event in a California, so I'm guessing you won't get a response to phone calls/emails until they're back from that. Wine & Dine is selling slowly so far (at least that's my guess since AP/DVC registrations haven't filled yet.)

It's not just runDisney that doesn't do refunds if a race is canceled. It's very common - industry practice, I think - to not refund race registrations if weather delays or cancels a race. As I said before, we (including Kamikaze) are aware of this BEFORE the events happen.* We agree to these...

In my opinion, I think the options are generous. When you register you acknowledge that they can cancel or delay with no refunds. That's part of your electronic signature. They don't have to offer us anything. There's more info coming at 10, which I'm sure will include partial refunds for...

Challenge runners still get the challenge medals and it still counts for C2C.

runDisney: medals and medallions (for 5Ks) are given to participants that are swept. Exception is challenge medals - you have to finish all required races to get those.

I'll preface this by saying that I haven't been to MVMCP yet. However, given your situation, I'd see the lights - rumor has it they won't be around in their original form for much longer with the rumored DHS construction coming up. Christmas Party isn't going anywhere. :)
