News Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

I decided to group these posts together because they bring up very important points about the design of Future World and the original intent of the Epcot experience. I'm not going to say that the original orginazation of Future World was perfect but it did have a logical order to it. Spaceship...

News New movie coming Epcot's Canada Pavilion

I saw this just before the parks shut down and I agree. The hosts said their goodbye and everyone decided it was time to leave the theater. It's a real shame since the closing segment not only has a fantastic score, it's also one amazing Circlevision scene right after another. Disney needs to...

    A Spirited 15 Rounds ...

Perhaps because It's A Small World has already been shamelessly copied at other parks in China? My guess is that it's not going to be a dedicated column at Huffington Post. Going to miss you here.

    George McGinnis dies

To get this thread appropriately back to George..... George was definitely one of those who would discourage the legend / celebrity status and was always emphasizing that it takes more than one single individual to put together a great show. For any of those here who were involved with "The...

    A Spirited Dirty Dozen ...

The issues go hand-in-hand with a major misconception in the business world -- that a "manager" can manage anything, whether it's consumer products or theme parks. There also seems to be an arrogance in current management that they know so much better than those that came before. Add that to...

Wookies, & Rebels, & Droids... OH WHY?! The Anti-SWL in Disneyland Thread

You are right that there is much more, but I was referring to the FILMS and it's a valid viewpoint to take as most of the public are going to be using that as their reference. One can't expect that guests are going to be familiar with all the additional fiction created around Star Wars unless...

Wookies, & Rebels, & Droids... OH WHY?! The Anti-SWL in Disneyland Thread

Believe me -- I once wandered across a Star Wars convention in Indianapolis. My first clue was Sand People hanging out in the Hyatt Regency lobby, (always a bad sign). Once I reached the epicenter of the spectacle I was completely blown away by the fervor of it all. I don't think that Disney...

    Iger mentions plans for EPCOT

Not sure if you are being serious. There already is an E-Ticket IP land and it's called Universal. The concept works because that is how Universal's parks evolved -- as a movie industry park that showcases their IP's. Disney's venture into theme parks was never about IP except in some rare...

Wookies, & Rebels, & Droids... OH WHY?! The Anti-SWL in Disneyland Thread

I like the way you have approached this topic. I pretty much agree that this is one of the most ridiculous ideas I have ever heard of happening at Disneyland. Aside from the argument of fundamentally altering Walt's park, the Star Wars area is simply going to be this bizarro alternate universe...

    Iger mentions plans for EPCOT

Good ideas. Don't forget about Innoventions. The current "black box" concept, (in that any sponsor can move in there and set up a random exhibit), is a detriment to the function of Future World -- not to mention that a lack of sponsorship has left entire areas vacant. What is lost from...

    Iger mentions plans for EPCOT

When John Lasseter came on board with Disney I remember reading an interview in which he talked about how he would like to enable bringing fresh content onto the parks. In fact, I think his statement went so far as to suggest having a movie and a related theme park attraction debut at the same...

    Iger mentions plans for EPCOT

Just to reflect on some of the themes in this thread... There's no doubt that Epcot Center of 1982 was on the edge of a technological revolution which contributed to it's WOW factor. Anyone here who's had the (mis)fortune of loading programs from a cassette tape onto an Apple II knows exactly...

    Staggs resigns

This last part of your statement really caught my attention. After a while one just wishes Iger would leave well enough alone. Not that change and growth are not desirable, but so may of the theme park projects he has initiated have had delays, cost overruns, and are for the most part...

    Spaceship in Spaceship Earth

I love this photo! I'm actually surprised that the Omnimover track is so low to the floor, but I guess that makes sense considering they mounted the motors to the sides of the track throughout the attraction, (which are unfortunately fairly obvious). One wouldn't think height would be an issue...

    Spaceship in Spaceship Earth

I can't remember if this rendering was posted on this thread already but for those just joining the discussion it nicely puts together the scene that used to be the "descent" through the center of the building -- or at least what the intent was. After seeing the Earth up in the planetarium, one...

    A Spirited Perfect Ten

What IP would they tie a Frontierland expansion to? I hate to be cynical but considering some of the recent projects, theme seems to be interpreted very loosely when it comes to placing an IP. I pretty much agree with your sentiments about the raft rides. They look fantastic but I hate riding...

    A Spirited Perfect Ten

Certainly looking at historical attendance figures for places like Epcot is going to give a good indication of growth. What I would wonder about is what the theoretical designed capacity of the "underutilized" parks would be. Certainly Epcot is not operating at capacity, (nor DHS or DAK)...

    A Spirited Perfect Ten

Something I just got in my email. Good timing for some of the recent discussion. Probably worthwhile seeing if you find yourself in San Francisco this summer. I'm going to try to stop by there. http://www.waltdisney.org/tomorrowland
