News Bob Iger is back! Chapek is out!!

I don‘t know if star power is all that big a deal now. I mean, people came for Iron Man, they came for Guardians - they didn’t come for RDJ and REALLY didn’t come for Chris Pratt. And look at this string of horror films with, at best, talented character actors in the leads. I can’t think of a...

    Connections Cafe and Eatery

Yeah, it’s kind of astonishing that they try in the first place. All my first jobs were in food service, and you’ll never go broke underestimating the American food palate, especially in a high turnover spot. It’s kind of a miracle to me that Satu’li Canteen maintained both its selection and...

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

Yes, because it makes you more money inventing new untried ones and implementing them than simply opening the doors on the old lucrative ones. Makes sense to me! Because Disney ALWAYS leaves easy cash on the table. 🙄

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

COVID messed up things for everyone. Good grief. I’m sure they’re keeping All-Star Sports and all sorts of cash cows closed for funsies.

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

I don’t have an opinion on Harmonious (other than seeing decades of hostile reactions to other shows - I mean, I remember when Spectromagic was a flop to a lot of Disney fans, so I always take reactions with a grain of salt). But honestly, I do warn against chalking misfires up to executive...

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

I could get behind dimming them a bit during non-show times. I don’t think I’d like them always twinkling, though - I think it’d be distracting (and also make it harder to get a good picture). The great thing about these lights is that they’re almost infinitely programmable, so I’m sure we’ll...

I certainly agree with you on the cake. And hey, it’s what I got for my first trip to WDW!

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

They made it even more magnificent, is what they did. I can’t believe anyone sees this is as anything as the most EPCOT-type thing imaginable. We literally had a weird laser globe in the middle of the lagoon that people couldn’t get enough of, and now somehow people think this is…tacky? Wowee...

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

I’m going to say this: what they did with Spaceship Earth and the Beacon show is more interesting to me than Harmonious OR ROE. It is *delightful.* It’s the most EPCOT-y thing that’s happened in years.

It looks like one in the daytime too, if we’re going down that route.

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

And what I remember is Disney fans on CompuServe and AOL calling for Eisner‘s head after he got rid of the classical music in the original Illuminations, calling it, and I quote, “the debacle of the millennium to come.”

News Contemporary Refurbishment--April to Sept 2021

Yeah, like I said, I like the sense of it, but it’s too much and it makes the window look small. That sort of arch works for a much wider window.

News Contemporary Refurbishment--April to Sept 2021

Brad Bird is trying to capture theme of Disney modernist-futurism in every design choice he made in The Incredibles (and for that matter, Tomorrowland). I get that you don’t like The Incredibles and that’s fine, but the same design sensibility of original Tomorrowland, Disney’s 50s science...

Not a problem. Preserving nuance and clarity is not the strong suit of online forums. :)

News Contemporary Refurbishment--April to Sept 2021

Ha! I mean, that’s fine, that’s valid, but that’s not exactly something that, you know, guides Disney decisions. I think castles are terrifying, classist and otherwise dreadful edifices, but I don’t think they’re gonna go tear down Cinderella’s castle based on my taste. :P

News Contemporary Refurbishment--April to Sept 2021

I can’t disagree more. The Incredibles is literally an extension of the whole Contemporary aesthetic, especially the stylized end credits they’re drawing from. (Heck, Incredibles 2 literally has the heroes saving an actual monorail.) It belongs. My only comment is I wish the stylized window...

News Space 220 Restaurant dining experience at Epcot's Future World

I was in a WDW forum yesterday where dozens were quite seriously lamenting the tragic missed opportunity of making it a Wall-E restaurant. For those who have argued with me about why Disney is getting IP into everything when obviously no True Disney Fan wants that, I invite you to spend five...

News Splash Mountain retheme to Princess and the Frog - Tiana's Bayou Adventure

Then you do it. If it takes no skill, sounds like an easy way to make a bundle and, oh! The prestige. What person would turn that opportunity down?

Good grief. I never understand people making definitive statements about art or the skill required.

Disney Genie and Genie+ at Walt Disney World

If Photopass is a benefit I‘m interested in, that’s $169 or $199. I don’t have an AP. If I go for 5 days and want this Genie business for two of us, that’s $130. If this plan had included PhotoPass, that would’ve saved at least $39 for a medium-length trip. But they don’t, so the point is moot...
