The Chit Chat Chit Chat Thread

I live in Florida, so I'm actually looking forward to it NOT still being dark at like 8AM lol.

News Another Fight at Magic Kingdom

Classy: a elegant; stylish b having or reflecting high standards of personal behavior c admirably skillful and graceful I see nothing in this definition which in any way should be confused with the current state of US society. What I'm not totally sure of is the extent to which...

News Another Fight at Magic Kingdom

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, these were not the people visiting WDW -promise, I was there.

the old feeling is gone.... or at least reduced a lot..

The WDW experience has declined precipitously since the late 80's/early 90's. While I hate it, I don't blame management. They answer to shareholders in dollars and cents. Once the influence the original management "cast" dwindled, the company would necessarily abandon some of it's original...

What has happened to the place we (used to) love?

So, this really. But it's not a zero-sum game. Executives do need to look after key metrics in order to secure crucial cost of capital etc., particularly with the economic uncertainty in the wake of Covid. That said, management, IMO, has seemed to move too far in the direction of sacrificing...

    Need help w/ 1st deluxe experience - 1st on-site visit in a long time

Although I'd say AKL is my favorite resort these days, I agree with you that it is probably farther out than you want to be for the trip you're describing. WL is wonderful, as is Poly. Poly is a step above WL IMO in respect to amenities (impossible to beat monorail to MK). The view of the...

    "You Just Don't Like Change"

If you're getting more and more offsite, either due to WDW becoming complacent or other resorts stepping up their game. . . IDK. But it certainly seem to have gotten to the point where I wouldn't necessarily assume that answer. I typically shell out accommodations for 10 each year (extended...

    "You Just Don't Like Change"

Same? Exact? Perhaps not. The Boardwalk is a nice resort IMO, but I'm not sure it offers anything more than what can be found elsewhere. For some, staying off site is about saving money. For others, it's a about value. For others yet, it's about a better experience. I've stayed on Crescent...

    "You Just Don't Like Change"

Years ago in fact, I would have agreed with you. At this point, the resort experience has been diminished to the point where the Waldorf Orlando, Four Seasons, or even Hyatt Grand Cypress totally eclipse WDW. As Disney continues to move toward less and less theming in their rooms, I think I'm...

    "You Just Don't Like Change"

Welp, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the mode (all change is good) is like an endemic disease, constructively used to validate all sorts of stuff which would otherwise show little to no actual net positive.

Yes. This was once the case at WDW as well. Today, not so much.

The “wealthy” is not going to work

When the Boomers die off and Gen-X feels fully disenfranchised by the Mouse, WDW will then have to contend with cohorts which will trade brand loyalty for instant gratification and validation quicker than you can say Tinker Bell.

Dangerous Levels of Heat Index for Orlando (July 18 - Aug 3, 2022)

Yes, yes it is. "There is nothing new under the sun." I was born and raised in New England, but have lived here for 20 years now. Once April comes around, all bets are off in respect to the heat and oppressive dewpoints.

One restaurant on Disney Property wins Michelin Star

Playing devil's advocate -what point would there be in purposing to obtain a star when WDW's target market has shifted markedly, such that they aren't able to distinguish star quality from Taco Bell? It's for the same reason that the term "foodie" refers far more to instagram engagement than it...

What age did you ditch the stroller for your child at the parks?

Took us a bit to figure it out. We had the first two about a year and a half apart. Then, we spread out the next three pretty well! 😀

What age did you ditch the stroller for your child at the parks?

I have a tiny (36lbs) 6 year old. The great thing about it is that during those times WDW regresses to the point illustrated in your pic, it's really easy to scoop her up and carry her through the melee.

What Happens to WDW / Disney Parks during a massive correction / recession?

"What Happens to WDW / Disney Parks during a massive correction / recession?" WDW is then normalized to what it was circa 1982-1986, what it was intended to be.

One restaurant on Disney Property wins Michelin Star

I don't know what you're looking at, where you've stayed, or the course over which you've stayed those "multiple times", but lobbies these days can be totally crammed. GF (where I really rarely stay) and WL can be the worst. My own sample spans trips which are now countless, dating back to...

One restaurant on Disney Property wins Michelin Star

Considering the prices charged by WDW for their resorts, guests should at least be able to expect a break from the crowds experienced at the parks during the day. Regardless of where I happen to be staying, I don't particularly want to be welcomed back to my hotel by a crowd of people far...
