    Please fix the monorail!

Did anyone find out the actual cost of Skyliner? I have only seen stuff saying it was more expensive than some of the previous gondola record holders, which were in the $50 million total range. I would be very surprised if a Doppelmayr D Line Gondola wasn't in the neighborhood of 1/3 the cost...

    Please fix the monorail!

Several years ago I did an armchair imagineering project to determine a full build out of the WDW monorail system and calculate ridership on each segment of the network. You can read about it here. It would require 24 monorail trains with 13 cars each, platform level boarding at all stations...

    Please fix the monorail!

I would also expect the station buildings and the electrical infrastructure to be significantly more expensive than a simple inflation adjustment from ~50 years ago.

    The hotels of HKDL

I have stayed at the TDL Hilton and Sheraton in 2018 and 2019, respectively. I remember thinking both were very comparable. I would happily stay at either on a future trip.

News The future of Star Tours, Star Wars Launch Bay and Star Wars shows at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Another reason for the reasonable wait times is the ride's extremely high capacity. Six cabins with 40 seats will do a lot for you!

News Test Track to be reimagined

I wouldn't be so sure. Theme park investments drive attendance and hotel bookings (and tens of millions in I'll revenue, if it is good). Theme parks are a more reliable way to get a return on Wall Street's investments. Heck, "Disney isn't investing enough in the parks" has been a major criticism...

News Test Track to be reimagined

I would also love to see the canopy go away, provided that the functions that occur under the canopy be moved under the building roof. Tge only way to do that with the current ride track and be able to accommodate the queue would be to build an addition to the building, possibly behind a berm...

News Test Track to be reimagined

The Tesla Model Y is a compact SUV that weighs between 4,154 and 4,155 lbs. The best selling compact SUV in 2022 was the Toyota Rav4, which weighs between 3,370 and 3,640 lbs. Apples to apples, EVs are heavier. But they are less maintenance, more powerful, have less wear on brake pads due to...

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

Nobody reasonable would ever accuse Amtrak of being a well managed organization. But that doesn't mean that rail has no place in our transportation system. Some individual segments of intercity rail actually do operate at a profit. In fact, a fair portion of the lack of profitability of Amtrak...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

In a perfect world, developers would never have to horse trade unless they wanted to. Every conceivable land use would be allowed as of right, with pre-determined impact fees or mitigation requirements perfectly proportionate to the impact on others, so there would be nothing to horse trade...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

I was thinking more about Disneyland Forward, which is including a lot more public outreach than Universal needed to do to entitle their South campus with Orange County. But perhaps I am misunderstanding the intent of the Disneyland Forward effort?

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

Just because it is conceivable that Orlando's theme parks could survive higher levels of taxation, doesn't mean that they should be subject to it. RCID allowed Disney to charge itself a higher tax rate to get better infrastructure for itself. But I a not aware of any theory of good governance...

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

There are currently 11 daily flights from Orlando to Miami, 6 daily flights from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale, and zero flights from Orlando to West Palm Beach. Assuming those flights have 200 passengers each (a generous assumption), that is 3,400 one way passengers from Orlando to South Florida...

News New Play Pavilion to replace Epcot's Wonders of Life

I guess I was kind of hoping it would end up similar to DCA's Magic of Disney Animation, which wouldn't be a poor fit in any version of Epcot.

Was Play! canceled before the NBA Experience crashed and burned? Is there any connection there, or am I just imagining that could be related?

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

The greater community already has that with the government of Orange County. RCID was created as a way to provide additional services to Disney on top of Orange County's services in exchange for higher tax rates. I don't think that is an unreasonable arrangement for the broader community. Just...

News 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

Toy Story Land and Star Wars Galaxy's Edge may not have been a net increase of total attractions, but the utilized capacity is dramatically higher. Rise of the Resistance serves about the same number of people that Lights Motors Action would serve in 6 hours. Smugglers Run is also about twice as...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

I like reading your posts, because although I ultimately disagree with them, they are clearly articulated and totally reasonable positions to take. I would like to push back on the idea that Universal doesn't get similar treatment. The City of Orlando and Orange County (depending on the campus...

Rumor Higher Speed Rail from MCO to Disney World

Maybe all the stupid drama over RCID/CFTOD can lead to a good outcome and get the station back to Disney Springs! I know it's a long shot, but I'm desperate for some silver linings.

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

Consultants write things to flatter their clients all the time. As long as you don't lie about substance, you can frame things any way you like. It doesn't sound like this report has much to damn Disney's relationship with RCID beyond some minor issues like the employee pass income tax thing...
