I can vouch that it was quiet on October 1, 1971....I was there too, as an out-of-state tourist. I stayed at the Hilton Inn at the Airport (could not get in to the Contemporary Hotel - sold out), had a rental car, and drove to the park October 1st. I was amazed at how "open" the roads were...
