Yup. It certainly would be useless for anything other than getting the person in the room, so it just solves that one problem. In the alternative, if you have an old Magic Band linked to your account you could use that and skip the castmember.

It wasn't motivated by guest experience. Fastpass was created to get your butt into a store or restaurant (or anywhere that you can spend money), and out of a line where you cannot. It definitely improved the experience, but that is not the reason that they spent the money to put the system in.

If you are willing to put up a deposit for a while you could book a trip to a Disney resort that is about 2 months out. Set up your magic bands and then cancel it as soon as your magic bands ship at about 30 days out. I had a friend ;) who did this with great success.

THIS. I've done exactly the same several times. I've got a spare ticket sitting on one right now. Easy way to make sure that the wrong ticket is not activated. I've also heard "horror" stories where people go to guest relations and the wrong ticket still gets used.

Possibly, but I could see them become a satellite of Disney Animation, Pixar, or Disney Toon studios. I guess they have a fairly low costs and a good tax deal from the state of Connecticut.
