Credit limits raised at Walt Disney World Resort hotels

How do you feel about ridiculous, pointless comments that only serve to complain about further ridiculous, pointless comments? I think we could generate some meaningful discussion on this topic....

If they want people to help ID the suspect, it would be helpful if they attached the picture to the article somehow.

Guide map availability reduced at MK

I like the paper maps as well. They make a nice souvenir which I loved as a kid. I am surprised how many wdwmagic members use them for actual navigation. The last time I needed a map at WDW was for the first 2 hours of my first day in AK when it opened.

Solar power farm coming to Disney

This is very true. Duke energy will received a tax credit in the amount of 30% of the cost of the project. I'm not sure what Florida's state incentives are but there may well be something from them as well. You can check state and federal renewable energy programs here: http://www.dsireusa.org

Solar power farm coming to Disney

Yea he spoke at my college graduation back in '08. It was a pathetic speech. This was all pre-Tesla and SpaceX but after he made his PayPal fortune. Since then I've been amazed at his rise to fame as a "visionary" when his speech consisted of "sooooo I made a bunch of money with PayPal so now...

Solar power farm coming to Disney

Get yourself a subscription to Home Power magazine. You'll find a whole community of weirdos (not unlike the community of weirdos here at wdwmagic) that do exactly that. It's certainly not cost effective but it is absolutely doable.

Solar power farm coming to Disney

I don't mean to argue with you over the viability of a parking lot based system, but saying that they can only produce a fraction of the power per square foot is a bit of an exaggeration. You are correct that it is a fraction, but it is around 80%. Not too too much less. Even in a land based...

Solar power farm coming to Disney

I understand what you mean and agree with you. I don't think I was being particularly clear. I was trying to say that not opting for a parking canopy system is evidence that Disney is doing this more for the money savings rather than the green clout. My jab at TDO was basically to say "of...

Solar power farm coming to Disney

This is true. Oftentimes the additional cost and reduced spatial efficiency of parking lot systems are overlooked for the added intrinsic value from putting a system in clear view of customers plus the shade provided for parking. If Disney were doing this simply for PR they probably would have...

Solar power farm coming to Disney

I obviously can't speak for this specific arrangement, but typically in these scenarios there isn't a land lease involved. Certainly not a paid land lease. Disney is allowing Duke to build the plant on their land in exchange for a reduced rate on the electricity the plant generates. Disney has...

Just wait, they'll start ranking different years by bronze silver or gold. Nothing new opening this year....it'll be a bronze year. Avatar land opening in 2017 that'll be a gold year.

I don't think the fact that fusion and fission can be confused will hold it back too much. In reality, modern fission (of which we have very little installed capacity) is the best short term option for reducing our dependence on hydrocarbons. Let's build some new nuclear fission plants and run...

Solar power farm coming to Disney

Side note: in my experience, most municipalities require a structural engineer to evaluate a roof before they will permit a solar system to be installed upon it. This didn't used to be the norm but today is pretty commonplace.

No, it is possible to do it with 2 batteries though. 1 isn't quite enough power to cover the average consumer + cloudy days.

Solar power farm coming to Disney

I'll call it neat. Since there are relatively few exciting prospects for game changing developments in the energy storage field in the near term future, Elon Musk has decided to focus his company's efforts on mass producing current technology in an effort to drive down costs. In Steve Jobs...

...and on the off chance that it doesn't get used, someone will suck it up over at Gaylord Palms or somewhere else nearby. Through net metering Disney would still profit from the production of that power.

Solar power farm coming to Disney

The 1 home in 3 hours statement is meant to quantify the power we're talking about here in a manner that makes sense to people that are unfamiliar with the field, not to convey in any way how these systems operate and what happens to the power generated. The electric grid is a complex beast that...

Solar power farm coming to Disney

Hopefully as someone who has spent years in the solar industry, I can provide some clarification on this. The average home in Florida uses 14.33 megawatt HOURS per year, quite different. That means in full sunlight Disney's system could produce enough power to fuel an average home for a year...
