    New smells in POC

Yup, we noticed it too this weekend. For us, the burning scene was the most noticeable. Not the most pleasant smell, though...

Disney employee stole $112K from restaurant register, deputies say

Somehow, I missed that. In my day, yes, a Lead would have been able to get away with this for years probably. Probably true now, too. You have to trust someone, unless you're the East German government, so Leads have some latitude usually. The only hope would be Big Data. If the amount of...

Disney employee stole $112K from restaurant register, deputies say

Back in the 90s, the Disney POS machines spit out a summary report per cashier login. This report was used to reconcile the drawer. The cashier counts what's physically there, records it on a handwritten sheet (so many 20s, so many fives, etc) with the total, and the Working Lead turns it all in...

Disney employee stole $112K from restaurant register, deputies say

I cannot speak to 2016. In the 1990s, refunds were NOT a common practice, at least not at these levels of hundreds of dollars for one cashier's account. If that sort of thing *is* common in 2016, they've got a different problem on their hands. Either everyone, and I mean every cashier, is...

WDW to Raise All Buffet Prices By Almost 50%?

In 2005 and for a few years thereafter, I published a Walt Disney World Dining book that manually captured the prices and menu items. Smartphones were rare when I started the project, so it made more sense back then than you might be thinking through today's eyes. Anyway, the concept quickly...

Disney employee stole $112K from restaurant register, deputies say

Loss Prevention is going to throw a fit, and appropriately so. As far back as the early 90s at Disneyland, we'd catch people doing this sort of thing after a pattern of $50 refunds in a day, let alone hundreds. It would only take a couple days for the pattern to become obvious. The Point of...

MNSSHP and MVMCP 2016 prices released

The prices have truly vaulted over the years. From AllEars.net: 1995 Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party - $16.95 adult/$16.95 child - Advance purchase held on Oct 31 only 1995 Jolly Holidays Celebration - $56.00 adult - held at Disney's Contemporary Convention Center 1995 Mickey's Very...

    Is Disney dollars scheme ending?!

Disney Dollars were introduced in 1987 at Disneyland; not sure if they made it to WDW that same year. (someone was asking how long they've been around)

Pecos Bill Cafe closing for short refurbishment to launch new menu

I, too, am worried that the fickle fast food expectations of the masses will lead to this new menu going the way of Noodle Station. I was a fan of Noodle Station's Asian menu, but it didn't last because the crowds didn't materialize on days when the the other park eateries were packed...

Rope Lights Outlining Roofs on Deluxe Resorts Diminishing?

As the *creator* of the Declining by Degrees motto, particularly as it applies to Disney, I feel I am entitled to chime in here. The Grand Floridian is scraping the very bottom of the barrel. A few weeks ago I saw it from the Express Monorail (near Contempo) with no trim lights at all. They seem...

    Aunt Polly's is open?

Tomorrowland Terrace was open yesterday as well. Sorry I didn't post the Polly menu for several hours.

    New phased Closing Nomenclature?

I've heard the Phase 1,2,3,4 meanings are the same as before (increasing restrictions on who can come in), but Phase A precedes Phase 1, and means: "no one day, one one park" tickets.

Missing Mickey Christmas Wreath at Contemporary?

I wouldn't be surprised if it had to do with new, tighter rules on working from rooftops and heights. Those same rules have given us all those snazzy (and visible) safety railings on rooftops around the parks.

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks (Part II)

Eddie, your aunt was an inspiration and a tough act to follow (for everyone). We feel your loss and all of us are poorer now... but it's also right to recognize how she made our (Disney) lives richer, in many ways. Thanks for filling in the details. I'd known your aunt was active for a long...

Bloomberg - No Disney Fun for Orlando Workers as Poverty Nears 20%

To add data to the discussion, when I was making $4.50 an hour at Disneyland in 1987, I was living at home. I wasn't supporting myself. Living on my own didn't happen until a few years later, when not only had the Disney wage increased (I think $11.75/hour), but I also had a teaching assistant...

Bloomberg - No Disney Fun for Orlando Workers as Poverty Nears 20%

I should add: this $4.50 was my STARTING wage. Within a few years I was earning the rate for Working Lead, $8.75 by 1989. This is $16 in 2013 dollars.

Bloomberg - No Disney Fun for Orlando Workers as Poverty Nears 20%

In 1987, I started at Disneyland at $4.50 an hour. This was far in advance of the $3.15 minimum wage of the day, so I was happy. In 1987, Disneyland paid more than more places, so it could afford to be discriminating. Using Westegg's inflation calculator, this is $9.09/hour in 2013. So WDW...

    New Return Procedure at Soarin'

Thank you, Flynnibus, for pointing out the feedback loop element in this. Using your tools, it becomes more clear that EVERYONE dropping by at 10am will pick up a return card instead of only a fraction deciding to "join the standby queue" under the wait-in-person scheme. There's no risk.
