The wet and swampy ground of Florida require an enormous amount of infrastructure to build large buildings, it's not necessarily that it is unbuildable, more that the cost will be higher than in most places. Although there are some spots that it isn't really feasible to build on.

I don't know for sure but it does seem like that would be possible; however, I don't think they would open that side until the entire side of the mountain is finished.

IMO it would be easier to sulpt the mountain into a real looking mountain when you know what the trees will look like up on it, so they put the trees there to figure out all the small details that will go in to the molding. The trees probably won't stay there for long at this point.

They could close CMM and leave FotLK open for the time being while they start set up and clearing for construction. I read the current contracts for FotLK cast runs through fall.

They do look like space mountain cars but they look like DL space mountain car with it being two people wide. With the current track and layout it would be awfully difficult to use the two wide cars in WDW so they would still have to be modified to single line cars.

I agree with that, if you arrive at the parks early most people will be able to do the popular rides before the waits get too rediculous. Then hop to a different park and use the fastpasses when crowds are at the highest levels.

I would agree with you conditionally. If I didn't have a park hopper then I wouldn't got to AK at all but with the park hopper I think I'd stop by for a reduced amount of time to ride KS and maybe a few others.

Yes, almost exactly like the decents in HM. The ride experiences will be very similar to HM with the inclusion of water. So it will basically be a merge between PotC and HM or so.

in the article the ride path that is shown says it has 3 drops but like RandomPrincess said it would be a drop of constant speed

Personally, I don't think they would end up having to make up for the complete capacity of Everest. A lot of people would spend less time in AK.

If they make the Mermaid ride an actual water ride the figurative concept of going under the sea during the ride simply does not work as you are still floating on the water. IMO that would change the ride as to the concept of the ride would no longer work.
