I don't think that anyone here is surprised by this.

My take is that the vast majority of guests receive this kind of trip there, and the minority are the outliers. We had an awesome trip there just a few years ago.

Probably depends on how low the seller was going with the price. Maybe someone just trying to unload it, so DVC grabs it up to resell at their stupidly high direct price.

So a question. If I add it to just my AP, when we travel with the kids - all in the same group and I can control their reservations, can they get pictures from a photopass person that I can then download?

My one and only trip to DL was in 2012. We do plan to go back eventually, but nothing soon.

I guess they could scan since there is a QR Code there, but they haven't done that at WDW. Interesting that DL does scan. Maybe rolling it out there since there a lot fewer places to eat or buy merchandise there, and they probably don't want to spend the money at WDW.

There isn't anything to scan from the wallet. You just show the discounts.

We haven't had AP cards for years. No need to even have them.

Ah, ok. I just open the wallet on my iPhone and show them that I have both DVC and AP discounts. It just shows up on the receipt then. They have never asked me to give them my phone, and I wouldn't if asked.

Where did you have to do that at WDW? We've never had to give our phone to a server at a restaurant there.

I think it's just a marketing gimmick from DVC to say - see, if you buy direct you can save money on this. As you said, this will appeal to a very small subset of DVC members. Could we afford it? Sure, but would we pay for it? Not a chance.

Yeah, but the people doing it don't care one whit about the cost. It's worth it to them and they have the cash to spend.

We haven't used or carried the AP card in years. We just show the DVC card in our Apple wallet and every CM has been good with that. A few have asked to see ID as well, but none of them have ever been rude about it.
