News "World of Color – One" coming to Disney California Adventure

Goes with tradition, as the original World of Color was subtitled: A salute to all things Disney but mostly Alan Menken.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

Even if it had been true, just because the Eastern Gateway got cancelled doesn't mean it couldn't still have been put in DCA. There was plenty of space behind California Screamin' and it would have fit just fine with the Paradise Pier theme. And there were ways to rejigger and shrink the...

Avatar (the movie) and its Sequels

Eh, on a ride, nobody cares. A good art designer can make it feel pretty seamless.

Avatar (the movie) and its Sequels

I would propose the best thing would be to extend Na'vi River Journey such that you float into the sea people's villages and look up at them populating those little overwater bungalows they inhabit. Making Na'vi River Journey a much more substantial experience would make the land much stronger.

    All things Universal Studios Hollywood

???? There has never, ever, ever been any inkling (to my knowledge) that Universal has even broached the subject of buying that golf course. For starters, that's a pretty historic course with some good golf pedigree, and it just received a very thorough top-to-bottom restoration. And second...

The Official "Explore Southern California!" Thread

Unless you are some sort of art connoisseur, scholar or frequent gallery-goer, you are doing way too many art museums. The museum with the best collection in the southland is actually the Norton Simon in Pasadena, but the best true museum-going experience (which includes factors like the...

Avatar (the movie) and its Sequels

Avatar is very popular in China, on the conception (perhaps misconception) that the floating mountains setting in the movie was inspired by their own landscape in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park area. If you've ever been there, you would know that the movie is used prominently in publicity...

    All things Universal Studios Hollywood

That's where they're building it? I can't believe Universal still has that big flat lot next to Citywalk, right outside the park gates and still refuses to build anything on it. Why! Oh Why are they so protective about that stretch of asphalt!

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

I've been on it, and think it would have been better as a D. And there it is. My review of the ride (I'd written this awhile back): My impression is that: - with Roger Rabbit's ride system - adding an s or c-shape curve to every room (to hide the vehicle in front) - bringing the physical set...

News 'Beyond Big Thunder Mountain' Blue Sky concept revealed for Magic Kingdom

The Marvel "attraction" (pointedly not called a ride in the presentation) doesn't seem much more than a Blue Sky concept right now either. Its artwork was just as nebulous and wishy-washy as the pieces for Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. The only thing that differentiates it is Feige claiming...

News Pacific Wharf to be Reimagined into San Fransokyo

Demand more what? Just as a thought experiment, I think the California Screamin' coaster was very popular when it was just California Screamin'. Plenty of people bought California Screamin' merchandise. Now that it is Incredicoaster, it makes more than California Screamin' because....what...

News Pacific Wharf to be Reimagined into San Fransokyo

Not only that, but: How does this land make money? How does theming this to Big Hero Six incite people to spend more money there? What are they buying? The whole IP incursion thing has never made sense to me. Just because something from a movie is slapped onto some buildings...how does that...

Disney to announce overhaul of DL Tomorrowland at D23?

For what it's worth, as soon as Bob Chapek implied that a new ride was coming to Avengers campus, I basically thought the Tomorrowland overhaul was off the table. There is no way two major projects are going to be in progress at the same time at Disneyland Resort. Doubly so since they consider...

    News D23 Expo 2022

Not if people keep paying money to go to it. D23 makes beacoup money for relatively nothing. People are paying money to go see a commercial. It's a brilliant, high profit, low effort business.

    New to Disneyland

Strongly agree with Basil. Even at a leisurely pace, you will not need more than three days. Four days is overkill and excessive unless you really are wanting multiple repeat experiences of many things. Please visit some of the rest of California, it can be a blast.

Disney Vacation Club Star View Station - New lounge coming to Disneyland Resort in 2023

What the heck is the point of this lounge? Are they trying to piggyback off the airport lounge craze? Those lounges have a real practical purpose (waiting spot for travelers) but with perks like free food and drinks. I am guessing Disney is not giving free food or drinks. And, frankly, most...

    All things Knotts Berry Farm

Just read the press release and they sure make it sound like this is the last year for Pumpkin Eater and Dark Ride.

    All things Knotts Berry Farm

I think it's because Pumpkin Eater is so awesome that it has survived this long. On a normal rotation that thing should have ended already. I too will be sad to see it go, but maybe they just gussy up a sequel. I vaguely recall there have been sequel mazes, so bring on Pumpkin Eater 2...
