    All things Universal Studios Hollywood

The thing is, Potter is one of the most brilliant and appealing fantasy worlds of our age—not to mention theme park perfection. No one thinks about Rowling while there. The creation has, thankfully, taken on its own life, and the creation has a ton of positive things to say about equality...

I think USH could find a way to fit in a version of Hagrid’s, reworked to fit the park’s spaces. It could have a different storyline, and even leave the themed area, as Hagrid does fly the motorcycle in the non-magical muggle world in the books/films. It could even take off from a version of...

I’ll add this little update to my original comment: I went to Epic again yesterday (5th visit) thinking that maybe word hadn’t really spread yet and that it might be my last chance to see the park before the crowds increased. I got there right when the parking lot opened at 9, and my jaw dropped...

East Coast Notes: Well, the fun “exclusive” feeling of Passholder Preview days at Epic Universe was fun while it lasted; Universal has now opened preview ticket sales to everybody. It’s a logical step toward ramping things up as May 22 approaches, but I hope it doesn’t wreck the “just right”...

I personally prefer it to Ministry. Ministry’s great; it creates mind-blowing illusions and it tops, scale-wise, anything that’s been done before in a dark ride. But, for me, Monsters Unchained is more fun and uses its amazing AAs in a more exciting and startling manner. I’ve lost count of how...

But it’s in the commercial (well…not the dialogue quote…sorry about that) 😃 By the way, that close up look Universal gave of that wolfman animatronic? It looks that good on the ride, too.

Just got back from my fourth day at Epic. I now feel confident in my new personal top 5 favorite U.S. theme parks: 1. Disneyland 2. Epic Universe 3. Islands of Adventure 4. Epcot 5. Dollywood

Hadn’t thought of that; I didn’t notice too many shade seekers on my visits… so far… but, it sure is a challenge to enter or exit without getting into someone’s vlog, selfie or group portrait! 😃

Here’s the thing that really drives me up the wall about current Disney: Walt Disney’s classic creations (including Disneyland) became popular, beloved and iconic BECAUSE they didn’t shy away from terror and darkness and scary villains and death. They respected their audience—kids and adults—by...

Everything Disney does lately strikes me as so timid and bland. Who are they afraid of offending at this point? Who actually rides iasw, experiences its wonderful art direction, dazzling colors and uplifting message of cooperation and peace… and comes away saying, “That was so offensive!” Let...

I see what you mean about Citywalk now. The big similarity in function I see between Main Street (including the hub) and Celestial Park is the way CP gives Epic a “home base” central gathering place to branch out from, which really helps give the place a feeling of instant friendliness and...

I do disagree that Celestial Park looks or feels like a Citywalk; it’s far too Maxfield Parrish for that! 😃 The big factor that videos can’t really convey is the lively, delightful way everything in Celestial Park feels interconnected around you, with the fountains, lights, and music in the...

Exactly. I love that TPW always puts the emphasis on accurately documenting a park; he plays the role of a genial, genuinely interested and informed tour guide and lets the great park footage take center stage. I think it helps that he’s not a foodie. 😃

@mickEblu: Theme Park Worldwide just posted an excellent YouTube Video of his first day and evening at Epic: His photography, more than in any other vlog tour I’ve seen yet, does a great job of capturing what the park genuinely looks like in person: outstanding nighttime footage too. Nice “You...

I hope to soon post a review of the park as a whole, which hopefully will answer some of the points you bring up. In the meantime, though: (Quick edit: I just looked at this and I apologize for how long this reply goes on! ) Before entering EU for the first time (Passholder Previews), I tried...

I’m old, so my all-time favorite DL commercial is/was 1978’s “What’s Gotten Into The Matterhorn?” A foggy long shot of the mountain, a slow zoom into a painting of a crystal cave… and then growls and glowing red eyes. Brilliant, minimalistic and perfect. 😃

Planet Coaster 2 just added—among other things—the ability to build restaurants where the peeps order, pick up, and carry their food to a table. Nice! And this guy eats his fries and sandwich with a spork just like I do!

The best of all the Sing-Along videos, and possibly the best promotional piece (post-Walt) Disney’s ever created for the park!

My opinion is that Epic Universe is a spectacular, beautiful, charming, state-of-the-art theme park and people are loving it… And that this could be a wake-up call for Disney to be better than they’ve been lately. I don’t think Universal is their biggest threat; I think Disney is Disney’s...

It’s amazing. The vehicle-I’ve heard—is indeed similar to spiderman/transfofmers, but with some added capabilities. The scale, clarity and feeling of vast heights and depths in the big showstopper scenes are unlike anything else I’ve ever experienced on a ride.
