Californian-in-Florida Reviews Epic Universe Part 2: Why I think it’s the Best Park in Florida I’ve already reviewed the rides at Epic Universe, but I’d like to offer some thoughts about the park’s other elements and its overall presentation, now that the official grand opening is just a couple...

    California Adventure vs EPCOT

I’m glad there’s still enough at MK for you to enjoy. I’m certain many, many people feel the same way. I love the MK ferry, but there’s no emotion there: I love the old American West and the spirit of discovery it represents, and the image of a steam powered paddle boat navigating a river just...

    California Adventure vs EPCOT

It’s not just the river. It’s the erasing of Frontierland and their (in my opinion) lame “redefining” of what “Frontier” means. The plaques above the entry tunnels should be reworded: “Here you remain in today and enter the world of cartoons, cartoons and more cartoons. And bubblewands.” I...

    California Adventure vs EPCOT

DL Epcot AK DCA DHS MK (MK instantly dropped to dead last for me when Disney cheerfully announced cartoon cars replacing RoA. Letting my AP expire now. Don’t plan on ever setting foot in MK again).

    California Adventure vs EPCOT

Epcot, even in its dumbed-down current state, is still better than DCA or any of the other 3 WDW parks. It was so good to begin with, it still has enough “Wow” factor left. It’s not better than Disneyland, though. Or Epic Universe.

11 AM Eastern time today. Ummmm…. y’know… I still prefer this option to virtual lines.

Would you rather pay less for an “Only Disneyland Park” annual pass?

I agree DL is the one U.S. Disney park I’d still consider buying an AP for. Not renewing my WDW pass this year. Already dropped SeaWorld/Busch. Definitely renewing Universal Orlando… whether or not they add an Epic upgrade option—the discounts and perks make it worth it.

Would you rather pay less for an “Only Disneyland Park” annual pass?

It would depend entirely on the actual cost. I’m through paying Iger era prices for Iger era products.

EU news: Merlin’s Beard! Battle at the Ministry has reopened after a several-day shutdown for adjustments .. and Universal has—at least temporarily—dropped the Virtual Line and gone to Standby. Single Rider line open too. Thank goodness! Fingers crossed this is the situation on Opening Day. 😃

All I can contribute to this is what I witness on my many, many trips to UOR: The Wizarding World is still super popular here—And with all age groups. Adults, teens and children still show up to the park gates wearing wizard robes, far more guests wear their Hogwarts house shirts and hats, the...

If you were stuck with the left or right side of the park, which would you choose?

The center corridor of DL. Shave away TL and everything left of HM and I’m good. Don’t want any of DCA. I’d much prefer the option to “Keep only what Walt Disney himself had a hand in creating.”

Exactly. The entrance could be a 1940’s movie theater or even some kind of year-round permanent promo zone for HHN. Monsters Unchained is a near-perfect, insanely fun ride. Like HM for Disney, slightly different versions could become Universal’s signature centerpiece most-loved dark ride.

    The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

Overheard yesterday at Epic Universe. I’m in the theater waiting for the Untrainable Dragon stage show to begin. A family with small kids sits nearby and the dad mutters: “I hope this isn’t as scary as that ant show.”

So, I just got back from another preview period visit to Epic Universe (6th time). And, since my last visit, they’ve added something new to Monsters Unchained…. it’s very effective… and wet… (SPOILER) Don’t get me wrong: I still love the ride. It’s my favorite at Epic and it’s in the running...

    The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

These candy bars are my favorite Epic Universe souvenirs. Aside from being the two best-tasting candy bars I’ve ever eaten, they’re worth buying for the “Berkian”-style artwork on the cardboard wrappers (I cannot get enough of Isle of Berk’s art direction). They’re sold at How To Treat Your...

News "Music From Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration" Compilation Album

For one crazy moment, I had visions of an updated rerelease of “A Musical History of Disneyland.” Then I read on and my heart sank. Oh. Another Disney project to file under “not for me.” Disney keeps making it so easy for me to save money! 😃

I’ll admit that both times I’ve been on the Jimmy Fallon ride, I had fun. And the whole building is gloriously air conditioned. And, regarding SLoP…YouTuber “Love Our Life” just posted a curious update from USF, and though he points out that this might not necessarily mean anything… well...

Other options, sure. Absolutely. But I strongly believe that most people don’t listen to or care about Rowling’s opinions and just enjoy the stories and park lands… which absolutely champion inclusion, equality, kindness, the embracing of those different from oneself, creativity and courage. The...

My current opinion—which could change or be totally wrong—is that the new Potter series coujd have almost no impact at all on the big Pop Culture perception of the franchise… unless it’s the greatest TV show ever made and they get absolutely everything right. The Potter movies were...

Well… time’s a thing. If a company creates a fantastic ride like Monsters Unchained, it’s quicker to adapt it to another park than start from scratch (though, a west coast version of a Florida ride should at least have a few changes to make both versions worth experiencing.) I don’t want parks...
