That was my take as well. Nothing sticks in my craw more than hidden fees and extra charges that are necessary for a decent experience. When I pay extra for a meal on the DCL I am really getting something special and not something that should have been included in the first place.

I did not really care for the 1 supership I went on. (Utopia) Everything was bigger, but I did not feel that it was better. I was most definitely not impressed with the food. The restaurants that you had to pay extra for were great, but the ones that were included were just not good.

That it is. I have always felt that we got value from the DCL compared to the other two cruise lines the wife and I have sailed on so I don't really mind the inflated price tag.

That does not really enter into the equation. They put BMW's on sale when they sit on the lot too long. An empty room makes Disney $0. They will put it on sale vs. letting it sit empty.

Getting the US AP's for us came down to simple math. Regular tickets were going to be just shy of the price of the AP. When we added in a room discount and US's simple 10% AP discount on food and merchandise we were in the black. A second trip in that year put us well in the black.

To be quite honest, it is an utter crap shoot. All of the value resorts use nearly identical construction methods and soundproofing. All you can do is request a room away from the pools, stairs, elevators, vending machines, etc. However, none of that will matter if you have a noisy neighbor.
