    The dreaded drive home..........

Yeah, I know it seems kinda obvious. What's a surprise to most people (it certainly was to me) is just how long rush-hour is in DC, and especially how early it starts in the evening.

New Orlando Railway skipping Airport and Disney

That is, at least in part, due to some clever wordsmithing in the article itself. Note the bold portions: "With a price tag of $1.2 billion at completion, the rail line is expected to serve just 2,150 commuters a day when it starts operating in three years." The point here is that even if...

New Orlando Railway skipping Airport and Disney

The rail line is a commuter line, and as such it's appropriate for it to skip Disney/Universal and MCO. In addition, there is no right-of-way acquisition as part of the project. SunRail is going to run on existing rails or new rails built on existing right-of-way, so it can only go where it...

    The dreaded drive home..........

When driving at night is not an option, my second choice is to time things so that I'm not passing through Washington DC during rush hour. And in that area, the morning and evening rush hours each tend to be at least 3 hours long. Basically, if I can't be out of DC before 5:30AM, then I...

    Saving pictures while at Disney

I'm kind of curious as to what sort of digital camera memory cards aren't sold anymore. Have you tried eBay?

Is It Silly / Ironic When People Complain About Crowds...

Not WDW-related, but along the same lines. I used to live at the Jersey Shore, which is a pretty big tourist destination in that region of the country. Tourism's a little different in NJ than in FL, because there's less direct benefit to residents not employed in the tourism industry, there...

    Keys to the Kingdom Tour

I'm only revealing this to temper your expectations. Without giving away too much - when people talk about going back stage to Splash Mountain, at least when I went, all you see is the back of the show building from the outside. You don't go inside the building itself, you don't see anything...

    Keys to the Kingdom Tour

For me, no magic was ruined. My perspective might be unique however - as an engineer, the only thing more interesting than wondering "how'd they do that" is knowing how they did it. That said, they don't really tell you all that much about how things are done anyway. I'd estimate that ~90%...

Stores in Closer Proximity to Walt Disney World???

There is lots of stuff on US-192 not too far from POP. If you turn L out of Pop onto Victory, L at the light (by Wide World of Sports) onto Osceola Parkway, and then right at the light onto International Dr. by the Gaylord Palms, it will take you to US-192. Lots of shopping and restaurants and...

    Must do.... outside of WDW

I'm a passholder, so I go at least half a dozen times a year. But I almost never go without having a meal at Sweet Tomatoes on the way in or out. I live about 90 minutes from WDW, and the one at the end of Hotel Plaza Blvd. is the closest one to my house.

My first overnight stayt at a Universal Resort

The other side of that, though, is that if you're not a resort guest it degrades the experience. The last time I had a Universal AP, they still had the original Express Pass, which was just like Fastpass where the tickets were distributed by machines in the park. But but they were also just...

    Monorail to TTC

All true. Note however that the express loop runs more trains than the resort loop that time of night. Between that and the fact that there are only two stops on the express line, the line for the express monorail can move quite a bit faster than the resort line.

My first overnight stayt at a Universal Resort

Interesting, because that is not how they advertised it, at least last time I was there. We didn't buy it - didn't need it, the park was dead except for WWoHP, and even that wasn't too bad. But they were pushing it at the ticket booth, and they never mentioned that it could only be used once...

My first overnight stayt at a Universal Resort

I never liked that they don't have fireworks, at least most of the year. As for the Express Pass, note that you don't have to stay in a hotel to get it, it is available as an add-on to a regular admission ticket.

Just a little bit of magic!

One night, which happened to be my birthday weekend, my wife and I had gotten pineapple floats from Aloha Isle. We used to sit in the always deserted (and now gone) seating area across from the Swiss Family Treehouse, and the tables in there were kind of wobbly (I think the floor was...

    Engineering/Imagineering

This story from the Sentinel in early 2010 names the two contractors doing the FLE as Barton Malow Co. of Southfield, Mich., and Birmingham, Ala.-based Construction LLC. I guess that's a good place to start looking, but I don't know if these are frequently-used Disney contractors, or if...

    Engineering/Imagineering

I don't have any specific knowledge, but a number of podcasts I follow have interviewed Imagineers over the years, and "how do you become an Imagineer" is always asked. Based on the answers typically given to this question, it seems to me that Imagineering is much more about art than...

    But what else is there??

Little Queen is the name of the band. Heart is the name of the band that they cover. Thus they play "the music of Heart". The way it's listed on the web site, seems like "The Music of Heart" is part of their name, kind of like "2U: A Tribute to U2"...

    Mall at Millenia

Festival Bay is across the street. It was actually built long before Beltz was torn down. For a while there was just about nothing there but the movie theater. I haven't been in there in a very long time, so I'm not sure what's in there now. A lot of these malls have web sites. Try...

    But what else is there??

Well, since you're so enthusiastic...here's a link to the schedule: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/epcot/special-events/sounds-like-summer-concerts/ I've seen 2U (who covers U2) and Slippery When Wet (Bon Jovi), and both are fantastic. Little Queen (Heart) are new this year, and...
