    Skyway Station Area Redesign

Martin - those photos are gorgeous, thanks so much for posting. It's nice to have a good photographic record of this lovely area. Here is an updated plan, showing the new water feature. This is based on some new info I received about the project from some wonderful people who are in the know...

    Haunted Mansion tarps are down!!

I am very excited for this new queue - the new details are fantastic! The color juxtaposition of the two roof coverings is a bit odd, though I suppose Disney will probably replace the red roof at some point. I also assume they will plant some trees in front of the showbuilding, so I'm not too...

    Skyway Station Area Redesign

Hmm, interesting thought! I think you were correct with your original idea of the waterfall over the retaining walls, though I do like the idea of the water wheel. I actually think that Disney will probably repurpose their current water feature pump house, as the new pond or stream terminus is...

    Skyway Station Area Redesign

Hmm, good question. I suspect that the room behind the women's room is a mechanical room, as that light rectangle is likely some piece of HVAC equipment. One of those smaller rooms is probably an electrical room - likely the one with the double doors, since that's usually needed for code. And...

    Skyway Station Area Redesign

Nice catch! I think that's definitely what that is. The sink would be in the lower alcove and the toilet off to the left, backing up to the plumbing wall (the long narrow space for plumbing fixtures).

    Skyway Station Area Redesign

As promised, here is a rendered plan of the proposed Skyway changes - one with labels, one without: Many thanks to SeaCastle for the original plan (and all the hard work on the permit thread)! This drawing is just my best interpretation of the grading plan. Those green areas may or may...

    Skyway Station Area Redesign

Also, I think this explains one of the motivations behind the re-worked Haunted Mansion queue. Look where that new path lets out! It's running right into the area of overflow HM queue, which would be a traffic nightmare on peak crowd days.

    Skyway Station Area Redesign

Notes on site work plans boring!? This is what I do for a living! Ah, well. I love this kind of stuff. For those of you having trouble interpreting the plans, I'm working on a simple Illustrator overlay which will at least clarify what's going on at the basic level. Without being able to read...

    Skyway Station Area Redesign

Ha, we had the same idea! Anyways, here's my overlays, with the original aerial and different opacities for the overlaid plans:

Jack Donaghey is the new Magic Mirror

The Beauty and the Beast photo is gorgeous! Unfortunately, now I can't get the image of the Beast as "The Dude" out of my head. Also love the Snow White one. Now that's what I want the Dwarf's Mine Train to look like!

"Guide to Disney World on main page of CNN.com; promotes dodging paying for parking!!

Thanks! Yeah, I completely understand why Disney stopped running the buses entirely, I just don't understand why they can't run buses during the second half of the day, when presumably most people who want to get to a theme park have already parked.

"Guide to Disney World on main page of CNN.com; promotes dodging paying for parking!!

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but why can't Disney start running buses to and from Downtown Disney and the theme parks after a certain time in the day? For example, maybe bus service between DTD and the parks could begin, say, after 2:00, once most people who were trying to get to a...

    FLE vs. Cars Land...

Agreed. I think the phased openings of the FLE present challenges not only from a marketing perspective but from a logistical one as well. The presence of a rather massive construction zone right in the middle of the expansion for 2 years (the future Seven Dwarfs Mine Train) seems particularly...

    FLE vs. Cars Land...

I absolutely agree with you regarding a ride's theme. The particular movie tie-in is ultimately irrelevant to the quality and enduring popularity of any given ride. For what it's worth, I wasn't trying to criticize the Davy Crockett franchise. I love those Davy Crockett Canoes! I love both the...

    FLE vs. Cars Land...

You make an excellent point and I agree with you. Splash Mountain is the perfect example of a ride than transcends the popularity of its franchise thanks to the sheer awesomeness of the attraction. This is also true of Mr. Toad (R.I.P.) and countless other examples in the theme parks (Jungle...

    FLE vs. Cars Land...

I agree that it's not fair to compare to compare the two expansions, as they address fundamentally different problems in their respective parks. Nevertheless, it is an interesting topic for discussion. I think Carsland will be amazing and will blow the FLE out of the water in many respects...

    Dwarfs Roller Coaster Speed

Also, for those of you who are wondering, I got the LM track layout from a photo of the layout in the DCA Blue Sky Cellar. The Dwarfs' Mine layout is from Lee. I overlaid and redrew both layouts on the leaked blueprints to calculate the track lengths.

    Dwarfs Roller Coaster Speed

I posted this already in another thread, but here's some info about track lengths. These are my best estimates based off of scaled plans. I know the numbers are in the ballpark (and are definitely proportionate to one another). I would certainly appreciate any insider info, as I'm just working...

New Fantasyland Aerial photo (Jan 24)

When I scale the plans in CAD, I'm getting the following lengths: Little Mermaid Track: ~660 ft Standby Queue: ~1200' Fastpass Queue: ~400' Snow White Mine Train: Track: ~2050 ft Standby Queue: ~870' Fastpass Queue: ~370' These lengths are approximate, as the scale might be...

New Fantasyland Aerial photo (Jan 24)

As far as I know, I was using the same blueprints that were all over the internet last summer. In that image, the Tea Cups were at the bottom in the center, sandwiched between the racetrack and Pooh (and just south of the proposed Pooh Meet and Greet and Aurora's cottage). For the overlay, I...
