We just did it less than 3 weeks ago. I personally would take the monorail from MK once you arrive there by bus. We left Pop around 9:00 for a 10:15 ADR and had more than enough time to casually walk over to the monorail.

It was very well lit without the strobe. So much so in fact I was shocked. It was the first time I've seen it that lit up since 2007. I almost think there was too much light....lol
