News Disney to pilot electronic-only transactions at its resort hotels

No, but a $3 candy at 3% & .30 transaction fee per transaction on low margin items make those even lower margins. That's the point. It's just like going to any place dining place and people charge a soda, a small item, you name it, and it drives margins down the drain while not increasing the...

News Disney to pilot electronic-only transactions at its resort hotels

While I certainly use cards and an electronic wallet, we primarily use cash as it's an incredibly effective budgetary tool. Having been an owner of a business for quite a long time, having guests pay for everything including the smallest of transactions with credit cards really eats into...

News Disney and Fox come to terms -- announcement soon; huge IP acquisition

It's something that Comcast is acquiring back the land that it owned before being fire sold by previous owner Vivendi. Stan Thomas is about as close to a con to local municipalities that he toyed with in both Atlanta and Orlando with dragged on, dead end projects while receiving special tax...

    CEO Bob Chapek?

That could very well be the case as when you've been in high places, you're utilized all over the place because of your knowledge and skill-set even if it isn't your area of expertise. My father was a high up the food chain executive and there were several instances that he became involved very...

    CEO Bob Chapek?

Um, maybe you missed a major piece here, the Murdoch family KEEPS the FOX Sports networks. FOX Broadcasting, FOX Sports, and FOX News are not part of the Disney deal. You're right in what you say, but that's not the deal. The Murdochs are keeping the constantly growing money making elements that...

    CEO Bob Chapek?

It's quite a rumored premium for the assets at hand and Iger will sell Wall St. that making this purchase of declining assets will work because of scale, which will probably turn out to be utter garbage. This again gets back to his track record that once you drill down past the obvious big three...

    CEO Bob Chapek?

One of the most interesting things that most in the States don't realize about behind the scenes with the Murdoch's assets is that a lot of this has to do with SKY as having full control has been the long goal and they've looked at Sky as a long-term growth area for the country. To me, it's...

Bob Iger may extend his contract past 2019

This would be James Murdoch, who is one of Rupert Murdoch's children, and the notion of a Murdoch regardless of political affiliation should be chilling to all. You would have one family with their tentacles in the operations of way too much media worldwide from networks to satellite. It would...

Layoffs underway at Walt Disney World

Quick note having been in the industry: Those numbers mean nothing. The data used to be poured over in the business, but now they're talked about like it's a Vegas bet with the public. You can have a film "make" $500 million, but many after marketing, theater sharing percentages, points, you...

    News Tomorrowland love

Just like we talked about down there, it was definitely a lubricant oozing from down the building. Truly some of the worst show quality that I've personally seen there and considering the building just had a wonderful paint job, it says plenty about the state of affairs.

What is with the AC being off on Spaceship Earth?

When we were there a few weeks ago, it we noticed the AC issues in countless rides. In the majority of them, it was clear that they have simply increased the indoor temperatures to the point of it being uncomfortable and humid. Anything from the Soarin' queue to Spaceship Earth as you noticed...

Trip Report September 2017 - 1st Time in Six Years!

I lived in Jax in the mid-90s and then my wife and I were in ORL from '00-'05. There's one thing that I forgot to mention that was so glaringly obvious and we spoke to Martin about.... Air conditioning. As you've noted, it was beyond appalling how warm and humid it was on the majority of...

Trip Report September 2017 - 1st Time in Six Years!

Outside of having visited the Magic Kingdom with our youngest son for a day in a May a year ago, it’s been six years since our family has taken a Walt Disney World vacation after having been annual pass holders for many years and for several years as locals. We made many observations and I hope...

    EPCOT Center 35th Anniversary Events?

The bottom line is that akin to politics, what we think is irrelevant to the gigantic corporation that is The Walt Disney Company. Only if in mass the public stops frequenting WDW, nothing will change outside of new leadership that "gets it" and the odds of that are incredibly slim. So, the...

    A Spirited 15 Rounds ...

In the world of risk management, the three assets that Iger had the company purchase are as sure bet as you have in entertainment and consumer products. When you look into Disney's forays outside of these three acquisitions, nearly all of the high-tech gambles have been complete flops. Massive...

    Hurricane Irma

Cantore used to be a real weather forecaster and then became a cartoon version of himself. It's a joke watching The Weather Channel. I was saying to relatives last night that I call it weather p*rn. It's sensational and ridiculous.

Rumor Siemens is going to end their sponsorship with the parks - Spaceship Earth and IllumiNations

Absolutely. It worked out so great last time..... The only surprising thing so far is that the parks actually looked improved (a far cry from the old standard as we all know) from how they had been looking over the past many years, as that was one of Pressler's first hatchet jobs to the parks ethos.

Rumor Siemens is going to end their sponsorship with the parks - Spaceship Earth and IllumiNations

Chapek certainly seems to be a sort of second coming of Paul Pressler. An utter lack of understanding of the theme park business as everything is designed to move more licensed product and enhance the endless properties that the company has in its library.

    Sad Haunted Mansion

When we last visited, which was last year, the stretching pictures in one room were damaged with one of the picture frames being torn. The effects seemed pretty spot on, but the scrim was filthy in the graveyard scenes. Having been on the attraction countless times over the years, I was...

EPCOT Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

I don't disagree with your latter statement at all, but Sklar and others in the company always sold it as two concepts merged together. I personally see a Future World and World Showcase fitting together akin to the World's Fair, but I can also say from the countless non Disney hardcore fans...
