What's a good amount to budget for our Disney trip?

If you really want to save money on food then I recommend having at least one meal off-property and out of your hotel. Meals on-site tend to cost around double of their off-site equivalent. If you share drinks then a quick service meal for 2 will cost about $20. Disney are quite good with the...

    Friar's Nook, Tropical Refreshments? Nope!

I guess they wanted a name appropriate to what they would be serving. There aren't many other Fryer-type names out there.

What Happens When the Economy Improves?

I think you might have misread some of U's information. It's free for hotel guests and at a price for everyone else. (see link for more info) http://www.universalorlando.com/universal_express.html As for changes... They should rip out that ridiculous WtP themed play area in Fantasyland...

    Park Design

Thanks for everyone's help so far. A couple of further questions. Is MK the only one with Utilidors? If so does anyone know why they didn't build them everywhere else? Also, can you clarify what is meant by phase one property (I'm assuming that you mean the MK section.) Thanks again everyone!

    Park Design

Apologies if there is a thread about this somewhere else. I am currently writing a paper on the design of Disney parks (specifically Disneyland and MK) and various design changes that have been implemented. Obviously one of the biggest design changes from DL to WDW was the use of Utilidors...

    D23 Question for MEMBERS ONLY

I suspect the OP's intent was not to bar non-members but merely trying to ask fellow members a question that relates to them.

    Epcot or DHS??

Actually I count 3: Mexico (Donald), The Land (Lion King) and The Living Seas (Nemo). I'm ignoring figment as he was created for Epcot. I would say that DHS has strayed considering that it was once a working studios. Now they've taken al the fun out of it.

Upset, many rides closed while I am planned to go to WDW!

That's like the whole park. Well, they might as well just close down all four parks, refund everyone and then pay guests compensation for "lack of magic".

Would Epcot have been a better choice for the West coast?

I actually like the concept of DCA but the main problem with it is that they built it IN California. Considering the number of locals that go to Disneyland (in comparison with WDW) that was probably the biggest mistake. Similarly I don't think that Westcot would work. What they really need is...

    Lion King Broadway Seating

I personally recommend for anyone seeing it for the first time that they sit in the Orchestra seating. I think the special effects would probably look slightly better from there too.

Scooters and Buses and Waiting, Oh My!

I think that many people can agree that scooters/ECVs can be a logistical nightmare. My high school specialized in helping educate young people with severe disabilities (so many of them used ECVs). I can't count the number of times students had to jump to the side of the slightly too narrow...

    Birthday fastpass

I just want to clarify a couple of things in regards to the Birthday fun card: 1) do you have to use it on your actual birthday? (if not then how long do you have to use it) 2) Can you use it in the World of Disney Store in Downtown Disney thereby not actually using up 1 days worth of park...

    Disney Dining plan question..

As someone previously said will you be having a table service meal every day? If not then I wouldn't bother with the plan. Then If you go counter service your son could have the kid's meal (if he has a smaller appetite) or at table service you could get the dish split. Don't forget that the DDP...

american idol. wrong name? for international guest

As American Idol is not viewed exclusively by Americans I don't see the issue with the name. Considering they're also having things specific to AMERICAN Idol it would seem daft to call it anything else. Particularly (as a previous poster mentioned) given that Pop Idol doesn't even exist anymore...

    2009 Ultimate Ticket Prices (UK)

I hate to tell you but I don't think the exchange rate will make a lot of difference to whether people are going or not. A large majority of people from the UK going to Orlando are still going on package holidays that include park tickets. The exchange rate is also slowly beginning to improve...

How to get on 1st row of Soarin?

Oddly the front row is the one place that my mum can't sit. She's scared of heights and apparently finds that the front row makes the whole thing far too realistic!

Why Isn't Apple Prevelant at WDW?

Several things... 1) My family use both macs and pcs and the choice is down to individual preference. All the macs have "lower specs" than the pcs (which btw are running XP in its various forms) and yet the macs (running both Tiger and Leopard) perform faster. 2) There are occasionally...

What do the new mugs look like?

Disney love the refillable mug scheme too. It makes everyone feel like they're getting some kind of bargain. Disney get $12 (or whatever the current price is) of pure profit while all the customers get a constant stream of drinks. I'm still in admiration that Disney's soda budget is $0.

    Here's a perk I'd like to see...

For those wishing for park ticket discounts... Originally DVC members got 2 free unlimited use length of stay park tickets for each stay (until about 1999). For my family that meant that we got 4+ years worth of FREE Tickets.

    Surprise trip

My parents did the surprise trip thing with me when I was 11. I'd just had some major exams (evil UK schools!) and they picked me up in the car and just drove really casually. Eventually, I realized that we'd been in the car waaaaay too long and asked where we were going and they said Disneyland...
