News Walt Disney World's COVID-19 reopening plans announced - July 11

Very anecdotal, but based on being out & about, traveling to Pensacola Beach last weekend ... I just get the sense that people are pretty much over the whole virus thing. The "mood" of the moment seems to have really shifted. I would expect by mid-July it will be very much in the rear-view...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

Don’t be so sure. Just when we think we understand this virus, we get a story like this: LINK “Most new Covid-19 hospitalizations in New York state are from people who were staying home and not venturing much outside, a "shocking" finding, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.”

    WDW Reopening Estimates

Pensacola Beach, FL was packed this weekend.. People were spread out on the beaches, but the boardwalk shops/restaurants were much more dense. I counted a grand total of 3 masks out of the hundreds of people we came across. I'm sure it was a similar scene along the Gulf Coast & many other...

This cuts both ways. It's easy for some to advocate prolonged lockdowns while their job is secure.

As far as masks, there might be better buy-in if Dr. Fauci and Surgeon Gen Adams didn’t say publicly in March that masks were essentially useless. A lot of people heard that, and so now assume the mandatory mask measures are empty feel-good gestures. And I can’t say I really blame them.

Precisely. And hospitalization figures are quite encouraging.

It certainly is getting better. Hospitalizations from covid-19 in some of the "hot spots" two weeks ago vs. now: New Jersey down from 5,328 to 3,509 Louisiana down from 1,502 to 1,031 NYC down from 281 to 39 And FL is down from 600 to 472.

Make them watch the country bear jamboree show 10x in a row if they take their mask off. That’ll show em! Really though, this is a bad idea.

That's what I'm thinking. The idea of a full time 100% must wear mask rule never made sense to me. You'd have to make exceptions while people are eating or drinking (or feeling overheated). At WDW people walk around with snacks and drinks all the time. People would figure out pretty quick that...

On this note, I saw where Theme Park Review is blocking people on FB if they say they won’t want to wear a mask in the summer heat. It’s his page so he can do whatever he wants, but it’s crazy how emotionally invested people have gotten over masks.

Yep. The more I think about it from Disney's perspective, the more I think they will do as many "precautionary measures" outside the gates as possible. I think they will want to keep the in-park experience as close to normal as possible.

    WDW Reopening Estimates

Those are important considerations as well. All I'm saying is it's not a cheap talking point to say the goalposts have shifted on the justifications for the stay-at-home orders. Back in early March, people reluctantly followed the orders and closed their businesses, in large part because of...

    Disney’s Q2 (Jan/Feb/Mar) FY 2020 Earnings Results Webcast on Tuesday, May 5, 4:30ET

Fascinating. I never thought of it that way. Looking forward, what do newer consumer habits tell us about what Disney's next focus might be?

    WDW Reopening Estimates

Of course money is the biggest concern. But the public relations risk of opening first, even if it turns out to be a safe and healthy decision, is something that could cost them money in the long run. Some will applaud it, some will decry it.. would the positives outweigh the negatives?
