Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

I really feel a lot, or most, of the "no pop culture impact" argument was just a weak argument people created to criticize the movie(s). Being the most popular movie of all time it drew out a lot of the "I don't like this super popular thing everyone else does so I'm cool" crowd. People who...

WDW during a Recession / Economic Downturn

Their business practice seems to be to get people on board through whatever means they can and then upsell upsell upsell. Anything more than basic dining, drink packages, excursions, etc. all cost extra. The base price tends to be a bit of an illusion, although you can have a perfectly good...

WDW during a Recession / Economic Downturn

How much are the numbers up? I read that tourism in Florida was expected to increase in the 7% range this year so I wonder what expectations vs reality are.

It'd be interesting to see all the nuts and bolts behind these decisions. Let's day RDJ is entitled to a percentage of the next Avengers movie gross. Is Disney obligated to shop that movie around in a bidding war scenario? They have to pay market value to themselves, but does the lack of a...

I assume it's also like any industry where there's an expectation that some products will lose money, and the ultimate goal is overall profitability. A retail store might know that some products will simply not sell. It's impossible to predict. Some products will end up being sold at a...

One thing to note is that they do have to pay proper market value in these cases, even to themselves. There have been lawsuits in the past because someone who was entitled to profit sharing on a show sued because a studio sold the rights to themselves at a low price.

Are people still digging their heads in the sand over the fact that comics sometimes have a subtext to their storytelling, including alluding to issues like immigration? I can't wait for the next X-Men movie so we can hear how they're just mutants and aren't about civil rights in any way shape...

Long term effects of WDC decision making, failure to innovate, and price gouging has caught up with WDW

How are we supposed to get inappropriately drunk at Epcot with just 12oz?

Long term effects of WDC decision making, failure to innovate, and price gouging has caught up with WDW

The parks had longer hours and less crowds in the past. It might be naïve to entertain the notion that they could make the experience better and make a little less money. I for one, however, would be more inclined to visit. Look at things like cheap annual passes. They get people in the door...

Long term effects of WDC decision making, failure to innovate, and price gouging has caught up with WDW

A less crowded WDW isn't the end of the world. For years they've used every trick in the book to bump attendance, and that impacts desire and value when it comes to vacationing. I imagine a lot of people would have no problem with paying more for a better experience.

There's been a lot of opinionating on the notion that the shortened theatrical window is hurting theater business. I imagine this is true to a degree for sure, but plenty of movies still hit big. The movie studios have the data we don't. If this were truly a major factor, surely they'd know...

Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

You can add shortened park hours to the mix as well. I remember the days when MK was open until midnight, even in relatively quiet periods. Guests had more flexibility and if you stayed late you had a great experience. So not only are we losing a few hours to longer standby times, we've lost a...

News Disney modifies monthly payment structure for Annual Passes

To me it's fine because it's similar to paying for a monthly gym pass. It's something you're using regularly. It's different than taking a one off vacation or buying a new TV you don't need, and then making payments for months afterward.

I don't know what the Elio filmmakers intended but it wouldn't be strange for a sci-fi show to speak to issues like autism in an allegorical rather than explicit way.

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

Does Epic Universe potentially change the equation? If people extend their stay at Universal does Disney suddenly see the potential of their vacation packages extending?

Man, the disparity between original content and familiar stuff is really remarkable. It's not a slight hesitation, it's outright rejection. It doesn't seem to be a case of quality product either, because Moana 2 was straight-to-DVD mediocrity and people came out in droves.

SPOILERS: Snow White live action (March 21, 2025 release)

With Gadot you know what you're going to get going in. If I'd expected more I could see being disappointed. I think she's better in the hero role than the villain. As Wonder Woman she gets by because her charisma and charm carry the character. You want to root for her. As a villain she doesn't...

It'd be a one day visit for me at most. I wouldn't expect to see much but I might regret passing on the opportunity.

This thread is often a tribute to off topic-ness so I think you're good ;) I've seen really mixed opinions on the Expo with the lengthy unshaded queues and terrible reservation system. I'm still debating whether or not to spend a day there in the fall, but I wonder if I'll just be done with...

Honestly, like a lot of popular Disney attractions not knowing the IP behind it is largely irrelevant if it's a good attraction. A fast paced car ride through mountain terrain is appealing regardless of whether or not one likes, loves, or doesn't even know about, the Cars movies. Likewise, I...
