Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

I feel the Pixar needs to restrengthen its brand as a draw to theaters for audiences, and to do so it needs to do whatever it can to ensure a great box office run for Elio. I still think June is a bad release date for a movie most people are not sold on. If the reviews are anything less than...

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

I was just looking up AMC showtimes and Elio apparently releases THIS WEEK!?! I go to the theaters every single week and while I've seen an Elio trailer a couple of times, I feel the movie isn't on the general radar for most people. I've heard little buzz or discussion about the movie, which...

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

I thought Ahsoka season 1 was alright, but way too niche in appeal. The show is a continuation of both the Clone Wars and Rebels animated TV shows. That's way too much homework for the average fan. I think if Ahsoka season 1 had been animated, it would be looked at more fondly as it would...

SPOILERS: Snow White live action (March 21, 2025 release)

Snow White oddly enough felt more like a live action remake of Wish than a remake of the original Snow White. Snow White's confrontation with the Evil Queen and rallying the Kingdom to take a stand against her reminded me very much of Asha inspiring the Kingdom to stand against Magnifico. The...

    Incredibles 3

I liked Incredibles 2. Wasn't as good as the first, but was a fun time.

    Incredibles 3

Without Brad Bird my enthusiasm for this movie has taken a major nosedive. I liked Elemental from Sohn so will still give the movie a shot, but I am not optimistic.

MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I overall like the new concept. Tiana's Bayou Adventure currently feels out of place with the orange/rocky/western version of Frontierland, but I think TBA will blend in better with this moor woodsy/national park version of Frontierland.

MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I chuckled when I saw how much the art released today tried to emphasize all the water features. It's not Rivers of America, but it felt like a deliberate attempt to try to shut up the people concerned about the reduction of water.

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

I think 2021-2024 did too much damage to the superhero genre in general. There needs to be like a 5-year break without superheroes, but neither Warner Bros. or Disney is going to allow that to happen. In 2021 we had FIVE MCU or MCU-adjacent movies in the span of six months (Black Widow...

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Oh I see. I thought you meant it was patronizing that I brought up that I saw some people had that objection. I can't really comment on whether or not the ending is offensive or not, as I'm not Hawaiian and don't have that kind of personal stake in the matter. However, It's possible that...

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Thunderbolts IS a pretty good movie and I wish it was performing better at the box office. Unfortunately, I don't think there was much hype for it since the characters it focuses on mostly come from what many view to be mediocre MCU films (Black Widow, Ant-man and the Wasp) and a Disney Plus...

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

In what way? Tony was saying there was an anti-woke campaign against the film, but a majority of the complaints I've personally seen have nothing to do with criticism of it being too woke, but for being less successful than the 2002 film in terms of Hawaiian representation. Maybe it's just the...

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Elio has an unfortunate release date. Would have been much better if it had come out in March, when there was less competition for family audiences. Of course, Disney had Snow White come out in March and they probably wren't expecting it to bomb as hard as it did. Still, with all the...

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

With a $400 million budget, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning will struggle to break even. And honestly, I can't say I feel to bad too for the movie. Unlike Dead Reckoning — which was a legitimately great action film that was unfortunately overlooked due to the Barbenheimer phenomenon...

Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

There's actually a lot of progressive people who dislike the ending of the remake and criticizing it as anti-indigenous/pro-colonialism. I'm sure that wasn't at all Disney's intent, but people are reading it that way. I'm not seeing the remake, but not because it's woke or anti-woke. I simply...

DHS New Villains Show Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Summer 2025

Agree about needing back up dancers. The show feels waaaay too small-scale to be worth of Disney World.

    'Ironheart' (Marvel Disney+ Series)

Visually it looks impressive for a Disney Plus show, but there's not really an exciting hook storywise. I also thought Riri was the weakest part of Wakanda Forever, as she felt shoehorned into the plot to promote this show. Hopefully I'm proven wrong and it turns out to be good. I do like...

News Disney and Miral Announce New Seventh Theme Park Planned for Abu Dhabi

Since Disney isn't paying for the new park, there really isn't THAT much of a risk. Sure, there may be some bad PR, but not the kind that I think will lead to company boycotts.

News Disney and Miral Announce New Seventh Theme Park Planned for Abu Dhabi

Another thing is that companies are comprised of dozens, to hundreds of people who all have very different agendas. I'm sure there are a lot of creatives at Disney who care a lot about social justice, but they often have to act accordingly to the whims of the executives. Bob Iger strikes me as...

News Disney and Miral Announce New Seventh Theme Park Planned for Abu Dhabi

I'm 99% certain the central castle is Elsa's ice palace. I also think a Zootopia skyscraper is mixed in there somewhere. Since Disney isn't paying the bills, I wonder if this park may be even more expensive/lavish than the US ones or if it will be a downgrade. Could go either way.
