"Professional Photographers are an Endangered Species" - Tom Bricker

As an aside to @KeithVH's post...I just checked out a book by Art Wolfe from the library two weeks ago. First time I had ever even heard of him (how I've missed that name before is beyond me...now I'm suddenly seeing it everywhere). Wow, was I missing out. Highly recommend his books.

"Professional Photographers are an Endangered Species" - Tom Bricker

Oh yeah, I definitely agree with you. I probably could have conveyed that better in the article with the reference to "photographers in captivity" if I dropped the corny extinction/endangered analogy (I like corny things, though). I think Peter Lik is a perfect example of your point--a...

"Professional Photographers are an Endangered Species" - Tom Bricker

I think that's a great point. The prospect of becoming a professional photographer right now (setting aside the idea of potentially ruining a fun hobby by turning it into work) is not at all appealing. People value photographers less now than ever before. Many people see Instagram photos and...

Spirited News, Observations & Thoughts IV

You're on a roll! Just adding some info with regard to the chip and pin system in Europe (and Canada)...it's great. Not only is it more secure, but all of the portable machines (namely in restaurants) are much more consumer friendly. Unfortunately, chipped cards are incredibly rare in the US...

Again, I'll direct your attention to Tokyo Disneyland, a park that is also 30 years old. I don't recall any instances of broken effects or poor maintenance during our visit there. That 30 year old park is pristine. There is a clear example of how preventative maintenance can keep theme parks in...

Spirited News, Observations & Thoughts IV

The term you're looking for is "preventative maintenance," and it is a real thing. In fact, there are two whole Disney theme parks that still believe in this...they just aren't operated by The Walt Disney Company.

I've heard some great things about the Portofino and it certainly looks nice in photos (actually reminds me a bit of the MiraCosta), but this really has me intrigued. Wonder what kind of rate I can find on it in the fall...

2014 Promotion rumored to be Show your Disney Side

I don't know if I'd sully the name of Disneybounding by associating it with whatever this is. For those who still don't understand Disneybounding (did you even actually go to the Tumblr page?), it takes normal clothing and creates an outfit that conjures an image of a particular character, but...

Typhoon Lagoon closed today (July 25 2013)

The Lagoon Gator sculpture was/is inside that hut. As soon as the hut is removed (if it hasn't been removed already), the sculpture will be visible. The M&G Lagoona Gator was retired years ago.

Doesn't this assume there's a risk to taking the 'all in' approach? That it's not a sure thing? If not, then why be concerned about approval? Regardless of the organizational structure and the debt, if rebuilding WDSP were a no-brainer, it should be approved in an instant because it's...

Spirited News, Observations & Thoughts Tres

Phase 2.0 was pretty widely discussed on the Disneyland-centric sites; I'm familiar with it. Just because there was a more aggressive solution doesn't mean what we got wasn't aggressive. Besides, Phase II almost never happens in any Disney project. DCA 2.0 might be the one expansion to buck that...

Spirited News, Observations & Thoughts Tres

I don't buy that. If that were the case, the Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris wouldn't still suck, and wouldn't currently be continuing the piecemeal approach. Very similar situation there, and a different choice has been made (so far). We consider it a no-brainer decision because we want to...

Just to be clear (and I was also a Scout)--I feel exactly the same way. At the risk of receiving an unflattering label, I think the clamor for better "understanding" of the obese is grossly exaggerated. I don't doubt that there are a lot of people who have size issues that are outside their...

    An Interview with Tom Bricker

Thanks! Keeping up on all of the Disney ramblings out there would be a full-time job, so I don't blame you there. I'm in the midst of my Tokyo trip report right now, but the succinct version of logistics and expense management are: do whatever you can to go there. Paris can wait (from what...

Spirited News, Observations & Thoughts Tres

@WDW1974 I don't care to wade through the discussion of ADHD in that JII thread, but from the best I can tell, you haven't updated it with anything new concerning JII since the day it was posted. Is that correct? Curious whether you've heard anything more that you can share yet. That news...
