Spirited Spring Break News, Observations & Thoughts ...

The absolute lowest rate at the MiraCosta is ~$360/night in the lowest season of the year, for a poor view room that sleeps 3. As a practical reality, you're probably looking at $500+/night most nights of the year. Even more for a Porto Paradiso (Mt. Prometheus) view. The popularity of that...

Spirited Spring Break News, Observations & Thoughts ...

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I really appreciate them. For having kids along with you, you certainly got around! The one suggestion of yours that really sticks out to me is Mt. Takao, as I really haven't read a whole lot about that, but it certainly sounds like you had an enjoyable time...

Spirited Spring Break News, Observations & Thoughts ...

Thanks for the info. I've heard it's really difficult to get into the Polynesian Terrace and Diamond Horseshoe shows unless you stay on-site or speak Japanese. We will be staying on-site for a couple of nights next time, and since I suspect this is probably the only time we will ever stay...

Spirited Spring Break News, Observations & Thoughts ...

I'm not going to defend a hashtag activist like the person behind #cancelcolbert who trolls for attention, but... You guys do realize this is social media, right? If social media is ineffective, well...

Epcot After Hours Tasting - New event

In fairness, I do this everywhere we go, not just the parks. (And being in Epcot from ~8a-11p is nothing...try 3:45a-2a in Tokyo DisneySea with jetlag!) I figure I can only physically do this type of thing for so many years, so why not make the most of it? If that makes me strange, eh...there...

Epcot After Hours Tasting - New event

The table service patrons are why this can be done now, and I'd hazard a guess that they're why this test is being run. "We have to keep Security Cast Members until 11:30 pm anyway, how can we further monetize?" If this were to get as big as one of the hard ticket parties, I'd agree that...

Epcot After Hours Tasting - New event

It should be noted that, at present, any day guest can stay in Epcot until ~11pm and not do any rides. I can't think of the last time I left that park after Illuminations before 11pm. So don't buy into this if staying late is your rationale. Just stay late for free.

    Dream Along to close?

I don't think any (unreplaced) loss of entertainment is a good thing, but DAWM isn't exactly my favorite show. Since it's clearly a permanent fixture at this point, it'd be nice if the stage was replaced with something that flows with the rest of Cinderella Castle and doesn't close off access...

    Destination D details released

I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that one weekend worth of rentals from WDW (in spaces that might have been rented by an outside organization if not by D23) really can be connected to the "flood of upcharge events to pay for Magic Bands." You can parse words if you like, but the fact...

    The Spirited Sixth Sense ...

The Maker Studios acquisition seems like a talent grab acquisition, in large part. If Disney wants to make a big play in this realm, that's not such a bad idea. We've all seen what Disney has done recently in terms of tech (albeit dramatically different tech, but I don't think Disney in house...

    The Spirited Sixth Sense ...

They had soups when we were there, too, but not the cones. I can't stand those cones at DCA, so I guess I have no reason to go back there (there as in the Gazebo, not TDR!). I'm actually a bit surprised that the cones aren't all they've imported from Cars Land. My Japanese friends (who have...

    The Spirited Sixth Sense ...

I was curious, too, until I started adding up a day's worth of snacks and stopped because the number was a little scary. Suffice to say, I'm sure the total number is "a lot." What can I say, my wife and I could be competitive eaters! The funny thing is that dining at Tokyo Disney Resort...

Another MK smoking area goes up in smoke

I think this hits the nail on the head of why Disney would be well advised to not push it out completely. While other businesses have been successful going smoke-free, how many of those other businesses have large European demographics like Disney does? I'd just as soon there be no smoking in...

    The Spirited Sixth Sense ...

That bacon ball thing is at the Gazebo, which is to the left of Crystal Palace. It's basically at the edge of World Bazaar. They had it last May and in November, so I'd be shocked if they don't have it now. If they don't for some reason, here's an alternative snack: the Tipo Torta in a stand...

    The Spirited Sixth Sense ...

Too bad the photo isn't from Christmas 'date' season. My wife and I dress well for the parks, but even we felt underdressed.

    Weather. What to pack.

Stop reading the blog. When it comes to Disneyland, it's for people who have no experience with Disney. The only thing you need to know is to target RSR as early as possible. Besides that...you're a veteran. Your baseline knowledge is all the preparation you need. You are only spoiling...

What's the best time to go: end of June, July, or beginning of Aug?

Go the week before or two weeks after the blackout is lifted. Even if you go right when it is lifted, though, the good news is that APs don't do attractions as much as the general public. They will only really be an issue when it comes to getting spots for Fantasmic, WoC, and Magical.

I think I'm starting to regret booking.

This is some general advice: don't overthink Disneyland. Seriously. It's not Walt Disney World (thank god). Planning to an extreme degree is totally unnecessary. Things will *always* be closed. Just go, enjoy what is open (which will be a tooooooon of stuff, no matter when you go), and enjoy...

    Weather. What to pack.

Pack layers. That time of year, SoCal can range from 30-80 degrees in the same day. (Or more the week @Tom was there!) On the plus side, no need to pack an umbrella!

That may be true much of the time, but often, they are empowered to correct situations--I know from experience. It all depends upon the company. Frontier, not so much.
