Theme Park Rant: Pokemon Taking Over Spider-Man

Just because Pokemon is replacing Spider-Man in Japan, that doesn't mean it's happening in Orlando. In fact I can guarantee it's not. Different contract, different circumstances. I don't know what to think of a Pokemon overlay for Spider-Man, but it isn't coming here, so I also don't really care...

Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Now Open!

Rides in technical rehearsal aren't working properly? They're cursed! Cursed, I tell you! Not theirs either. They just stole that other guy's footage and re-edited it.

Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Now Open!

You could say this about literally any ride with animatronics. Some AAs are more vital than others, but they all hurt the experience to some degree when not working. Universal has a spotty history with the upkeep of AAs, but they've never aimed a strobe light at one and called it a day, so at...

Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Now Open!

He only offers a brief glimpse of Celestial Park, and it basically looks how we knew it would look, although it's odd that the dragon for the Asian restaurant still looks unfinished. The Potter queue looks nice and detailed. Partially regret seeing the Monsters spoilers, but at least they were...

    Marvel on the chopping block?

Nothing goes beyond the contract. The contract is everything. It's what gives Universal an upper-hand in any negotiations, and there would have to be something seriously amiss on the corporate end for them to not keep an iron grip on it. Yes, it's possible, but extremely unlikely and mostly just...

    Marvel on the chopping block?

How do we know Universal's compensation of Nintendo is based on park revenue, as that's presumably the only thing that would trigger this clause? I haven't seen that contract shared anywhere.

    Marvel on the chopping block?

Even if that's true (citation?) it still doesn't explain why Marvel would be offered compensation for Nintendo being added to the park. Such an agreement would be favorable to Marvel, not Nintendo, which neither Universal nor Nintendo have any motive for enriching.

    Marvel on the chopping block?

Nintendo would not be the first IP they've added to the park since opening. There's been no such renegotiation of terms before, why would there be one now? 🤔

    Marvel on the chopping block?

I'm not up to speed on what Disney is doing, but if there's any chance that they're putting more Marvel in their parks, that doesn't necessarily mean anything for Universal or MSHI. We have to remember that there are a number of Marvel properties Disney is already free to use. Now, whether or...

    Marvel on the chopping block?

How does this tell us anything at all about the status of Marvel at Universal? You're convinced that Universal has a massive IP on the chopping block just because another, similar IP is presumably available? That's a big ol' leap from point A straight to point Z. It's just not logical. The...

Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Now Open!

I figured as much, I'm just not sure "bad sightlines are okay if your theme is also bad" is a worthwhile point, especially when Disney prides itself on being the leader in theming.

Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Now Open!

Many don't like it, but Velocicoaster is still technically in-theme for its area. A show building isn't.

Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Now Open!

For those who've been to the park and think you can see outside of the park too easily, is this something expansion could potentially fix? This could also create issues of its own, as we've seen in IOA, but I don't know whether the sightline issues you're referring to are related to expansion...

Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Now Open!

Yes it is. Hence the use of the verb "suspend." If you aren't doing it willingly then it's simply belief.

Orlando and Osaka have the exact same attractions.

Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Now Open!

I'm not being pedantic. You can call it whatever you want, especially since Universal never used ticket books, but by using MIB as an example, you're effectively altering your own suggestion to say Epic Universe needs more large-scale, headline attractions, because that's exactly what MIB is...

Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Now Open!

I find it... "interesting" that supposed team members, who are the only ones seeing the park so far, are openly posting such negative reviews online... :cautious: Men In Black is an E ticket in a massive building. Not quite comparable to the others you mentioned.
