Unsure who to vote for regarding the Walt Disney Co. Board

It may, but the assets that are likely to get sold off aren't the parks.

Unsure who to vote for regarding the Walt Disney Co. Board

I don't think comparing it to Tokyo is realistic - in a world where Parks gets sold off, Disney itself is a very different company and may not have the same incentive to suppoor the parks with its branding / IP.

Unsure who to vote for regarding the Walt Disney Co. Board

There are two ways that buying the parks could go. The first is a firm that wants the parks to grow and become a larger business. The second is a firm that wants to bleed it dry, make a profit, then cast it aside. Plus, if the parks get sold, it would involve licensing deals with whatever...

Unsure who to vote for regarding the Walt Disney Co. Board

History has not shown that. On the boards he's been on, even though he has only one or two seats, he has gotten his way. If he gets on the board, it will make Iger look like a prince.

Unsure who to vote for regarding the Walt Disney Co. Board

One more point I forgot to make - Peltz is backed by Perlmutter. As a business leader, he is largly responsible for pushing "value engineering" at Disney. He's a penny-pinching cost cutter, through and through, and you can bet that he is going to use his ownership stake to push that agenda...

Unsure who to vote for regarding the Walt Disney Co. Board

They will push bad changes. And Peltz has a history of manipulating the media and stock to influence board members to getting his way. He does not have a good track record with the companies he has been on the board of (with one notable exception) so why give him the chance?

Unsure who to vote for regarding the Walt Disney Co. Board

With one notable exception, Peltz has harmed every company he's had a board seat on. He absolutely could. He would be devastating for the board. Influence - Peltz has a history of strongarming people on the board to get his way; he leaks info, puts pressure on the other board members...

Just out of curiosity and not related to this dismissal - does the nature of appellate review differ in a jury trial vs a bench trial?

Appeals courts can also overturn findings of fact, but that is not common and only done when the finding of fact is clearly wrong.

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

Worth noting - just today, Judge Winser was overturned again by the court of appeals. Again it involved a question of the constitutionality of a DeSantis-backed law. I won't get into the specifics of that case as it isn't on topic here, but thought it worth pointing out. It seems this judge...

Wrong again. It.had been in the works for years. It was approved by the state in the fall of 22 which was the last step needed before finalization of the agreement. What procedural issues? What illegal components? There aren't any. Ones identified do not invalidate the agreement according...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

They haven't lost any lawsuits. They had one dismissed, but the appeals process needs to play out. What evidence of entanglement was presented? I read through the report - did not see any evidence, just accusations. I'm unclear of why there needs to be. There are many in this thread who...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

Not to mention the fact that the monorail legislation and the developer agreement nullification legislation were written so that Disney was the only one affected. Not sure how the judge ignored that fact.

Name one procedural violation. They get the same thing as any other local government that enters into a development agreement. Should all such agreements in FL be thrown out?

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

There are many limits on state legislator's constitutional powers. In fact, there are many examples, cited by Disney and agreed with by the judge, where state legislative motives are looked at - for example, in cases involving race discrimination. The judge just applied Hubbard (which is a...

The parking garages benefit the tenants at Disney Springs. It was the tenants that advocated for a Disney Springs expansion and they benefit as much as Disney from the increased traffic. They did have a normal permitting process. Reedy Creek was known for its rigorous process before the new...

News Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

The 11th circuit has been deciding against DeSantis in a lot of cases recently. Just because it's a majority of Republicans, it doesn't mean they are all for DeSantis' activist tendencies. Just recently, the 11th circuit remanded a case back regarding the DeSantis firing of a state prosecutor...

The judge dismissed the case on the merits against CFTOD based on the claims that were filed. He did go on to say that Disney could have standing in other claims against the district.
