    Dead Monsters?

This is the most intersting part of this to me. If TDO thinks the Studio does not need capacity, they are thinking attendance is not going up. A refurbished Star Tours (or a refurbished anything else) does not add capacity on paper. Also, since the only big attraction in the Fantasyland...

Unless "major" means an investment of less than $500,000, I do not believe you.

Earning Report: Attendance remains level with last year, revenue down

I've posted many facts in this thread. Go back and read them. Your tone is rude and too personal. Address the subject. Not the poster. I haven't asked you why you seem to abhor critical thought. I assume you have your reasons and I leave it at that.

I don't think that anyone is disputing that Walt needed to make money on Disneyland. The point of the quote is that the leaders of Disney TODAY are just about making money.

I get what you are saying. That Disney is overall a healthy company and doing well enough in a bad economy. So well in fact the cost cuts (layoffs, shorter hours, entertianment cuts, etc.) are not necessary. I agree. I'm saying that Disney is doing very poorly based on their self-described...

The aveage family does not spend 7k on a vacation today. I never said it was cheap then, in fact I said the opposite. But I said the average family could still go. Only time will tell the results of deep discounting.

Harry Potter is arriving sooner than expected. What does this mean for WDW?

You're right they both rely on 3D too much. But I think Spidy is more clever about it. The way Spider Man jumps on your vehicle and it reacts to his weight. Clever and cool. Nothing like that in TSMM. Plus Spidy opened 10 years ago when the concept was novel, not old and stale like it is now.

Not by me. I thought Disney park tickets were underpriced until 1994. Well priced from 1994 - 1998. And over priced starting in 1998. Always is a strong word. The Contemporary and Poly were priced lower then the average Marriott. They were moderately priced. The Golf Resort/Disney Inn was a...

That is not what he said at all. Disney was seen as a premium experience and did not offer big discounts from 1971 until 1998. It was a bit on the expensive side but still affordable to the middle class. Now it is viewed as very expensive and the exclusive domain of the upper-middle class and...

No, but I can imagine people starting to think that it isn't worth the money. And to all of you that argue that a day at Disney is less expensive than a broadway show: If Disney limited itself only to the audience that shelled out $100+ for a broadway show, they would be out of business. A...

Just a note of interest. Many of the people who created DCA, Disney Studios Paris and HKDL are still employed while dozens of Guest Service Managers lost their jobs. Bob Iger said, "None of the job cuts would affect guest service." :brick: Disneyland can't build a Monorail that works or a AA...

Yup. You don't make money without investing money, but you can move it around in a shell game. "Borrow from the future...who knows if we'll still be working for this stupid company by then." - Faceless Corporate MBA

Earning Report: Attendance remains level with last year, revenue down

This earnings report is not as bad as it could have been, but it's hardly anything to celebrate. Revenue means nothing. If you looked at GMs revenue alone you would think the company was run by geniuses. The operating profit is the only real indicator. For the Parks & Resorts unit to drop...

But these are new models and a new Disney. Jay Rasulo has completely changed the upper management of the Parks & Resorts segment. Of Jay Rasulo's executive team, only Al Weis had a leadership role in the company before 2002. I do not think this team has proven itself.

    Discounts Propping Up Bottom Line

WD Parks & Resorts operating income was down 50% in the second quarter of 2009 (ending March 28). If attendance is the same then the cause of the huge drop in profit is a result of decreased guest spending. Of course part of this is just guests spending less on property, but a lot of it is a...
