News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Yes, but the idea is to cut down on the number of people waiting in the LL itself. I've not been back to either park since the changes last year, but my understanding from what I've read is that clamping down on DAS, both by reducing the number of guests who receive it and reducing the number...

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

It unnecessarily adds people to the LLs, which slow down the LLs and the standby lines.

Not to mention it's not always a choice for families with no disabilities to separate.

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Really shouldn't matter whether separating is a choice or not, the point is that not everyone stays together as a group throughout a day at Disney. As for providing documentation, that really does nothing more than show that someone has a disability. Ten people could all provide documentation...

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

OK, but "it sucks having to wait alone" is not a disability to be accommodated, and there are plenty of reasons that non-disabled guests have to separate from their families.

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Exactly - anyone who can only be in the park, regardless of reason, is going to be very limited in how many things they can do. Accommodations aren't intended to make up for that.

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

We'll just agree to disagree - a person with DAS IS doing the standby time, they're just doing it outside the line. What difference does it make if they have an LL time as well?

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Exactly. I have no issue whatsoever with DAS users buying LL and holding a DAS return time & an LL at the same time, as that's really no different than me waiting in line while I have an LL return time. My issue is with DAS users being able to ride other attractions while they wait for their...

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

I agree 100% that Disney should offer refunds - without a fight - if DAS is denied and the guest feels that they need DAS in order to access the attractions. But the fact that everyone just took it for granted previously just shows how badly the changes were needed.

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

What I've seen are mostly people who don't like the alternate accommodations v. the alternatives won't work for them. But that is, of course, anecdotal.

I've seen you say a number of times complaining that people have to spend money before they can even apply for DAS. How is that any different than before the most recent changes?

I don't understand what you mean when you say it's behind a paywall...if you mean you have to have tickets first, well, haven't you always had to have tickets first?

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

As far as I know, it was always necessary to have already purchased tickets before applying for DAS, so that hasn't changed.

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

The issue is avoiding getting back to the situation where there are way too many people in the LL.

Here's a good article from last year that I just found re: accessible restrooms on planes: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/airplane-bathrooms-accessible-wheelchairs-180982646/

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Probably because outside of employment issues, airlines aren't covered by the ADA. There is an act that covers them, (Air Accessibility or something like that), but no idea why there wouldn't be a requirement for larger restrooms on at least some planes.

The poster already said this wouldn't work, as they sometimes need their partner's assistance in the restroom.

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

I would say in the area of disability, had Disney continued to do more than they're required to do, it would have continued to get worse for other guests.

News New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Fair enough on it not be a truly representative sample. As to your previous points, we'll just have to agree to disagree - the issues of the elderly who need to walk and the people who need to use the bathroom every 20 minutes aren't caused by the line itself, so other accommodations are available.
