I still think the average guest spends significantly more because they are spending almost every dollar in Disney. AP holders tend to go to the parks and occasionally buy something or book the occasional meal at a TS restaurant over the course of a year. Of course there are exceptions to this...

Is there data to confirm that AP/DVC spend more than regular guests? I'm genuinely curious because I was under the impression the average guest spends more by a substantial amount.

No worries. If you have the time, the PBS documentary about Walt is a really good watch. It's long and separated in two parts but it's worth it.
