Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

Yep. The more I think about it from Disney's perspective, the more I think they will do as many "precautionary measures" outside the gates as possible. I think they will want to keep the in-park experience as close to normal as possible.

And this is a different conversation than the early March "flatten the curve" one.

Those are important considerations as well. All I'm saying is it's not a cheap talking point to say the goalposts have shifted on the justifications for the stay-at-home orders. Back in early March, people reluctantly followed the orders and closed their businesses, in large part because of...

    Disney’s Q2 (Jan/Feb/Mar) FY 2020 Earnings Results Webcast on Tuesday, May 5, 4:30ET

Fascinating. I never thought of it that way. Looking forward, what do newer consumer habits tell us about what Disney's next focus might be?

    WDW Reopening Estimates

Of course money is the biggest concern. But the public relations risk of opening first, even if it turns out to be a safe and healthy decision, is something that could cost them money in the long run. Some will applaud it, some will decry it.. would the positives outweigh the negatives?

    WDW Reopening Estimates

Can your company keep some semblance of regular operations with employees working from home another 7-8 months? Disney may not be able to afford to do that with its parks, even with great Disney+ subscription numbers.

    WDW Reopening Estimates

Your reasoning is sound, but I think it's too early to say Disney is playing it close to the vest relative to their counterparts. We are just now seeing some beaches reopen, and some zoos over the next few weeks. But no theme parks or water parks are open in the US, that I know of. Now, if...

    Disney’s Q2 (Jan/Feb/Mar) FY 2020 Earnings Results Webcast on Tuesday, May 5, 4:30ET

Seemed like @realBobChapek dodged the question about expected capacity once parks reopen. Just said they won't do it if it's not profitable.

    WDW Reopening Estimates

I was just reading about this. That's 5 weeks and change from now. The Tampa Zoo opens in 4 weeks, and the the Jacksonville Zoo opens in 4 days. I'm sure Disney top brass will be watching these closely.

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

That document (linked here) shows a wide range of potential outcomes, with daily deaths on June 1 anywhere between 150 and 20,000. It doesn't state the model used, or the methodology. Apparently it was not intended for public release.

Agreed. They could initially open to FL residents as a way to show the rest of the country "see, we opened the gates and the world didn't end" and to get operations back running smoothly. Then, they could open to the rest of country a week or two later assuming no big bad national headlines.

Such a confusing time when media outlets contradict their own stories on the same day 🙃 Hopefully Disney & FL officials are able to sift through the noise and rely on good info.

Not sure if this was meant for me, but I'll say this.. The fact is that healthy people under 65 who acquire the virus have a very small chance of a bad outcome. My opinion is that Disney looks at that fact as a positive. 🙂
